Mary Washington Races to 15th Straight CAC Men's Swimming Crown; UMW's Alex Anderson Named Swimmer of the Year

Mary Washington won 14 events and totaled 915 points on its way to its 15th straight CAC Men's Swimming Championship on Sunday at the St. Marys Aquatics Center. 

York claimed second place with a three-day toal of 553 points, with Salisbury rounding out the top three with 428 points. St. Mary's (397) edged Marymount (384) for fourth place, while Frostburg State took sixth with 219. 

Mary Washington senior Alex Anderson was named the CAC Swimming Athlete of the Year for the third straight season after capturing seven total gold medals - three individual and four relay - including three record-breaking performances. On Sunday, Anderson won the 200 butterfly at 1:46.56 and closed out the meet swimming the opening leg of UMW's victorious 200 freestyle relay squad (3:06.00) along with Sean Mayer, Vance Solseth, and Matthew Garstka

UMW head coach Abby Brethauer earned Coach of the Year recognition for the second consecutive year, while Marymount freshman Thomas Brierly secured Rookie of the Year accolades. Brierly won the 200 backstroke at 1:51.61 on Sunday. 

A pair of records fell on day three, with York's Kyle Walthall defending his title in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:00.17, following his CAC and meet record time of 1:59.82 in the morning prelims.

In the 1650 freestyle, UMW's Tyler Gimple swam to a CAC and championship record of 16:08.49 for his second individual distance freestyle of the meet. 

UMW's Mayer grabbed first in the 100 freestyle at 46.93 for the Eagles other individual win on day three.
