Mary Washington Men and Women Jump Out To Early Lead at CAC Swimming Championships; Five Records Broken On Day 1

The Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams broke a total of five CAC records and captured first place in all 10 events to claim the early lead on day one of the CAC Swimming Championships at St. Mary's. 

On the women's side, UMW totaled 269 points to take control of first place in the team standings, followed by St. Mary's (149), Marymount (142), Salisbury (112), York (93) and Frostburg State (80).

The UMW men posted a first-day total of 269 points to take the advantage over York (160), Marymount (125), St. Mary's (104), Salisbury (95) and Frostburg State (67).  

The UMW women raced to CAC record times in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay, while Stephanie Hallock set a new championship record in the 50 freestyle. The 200 freestyle relay squad of Katie Fago, Shannon Coryell, Hannah Hagy and Hallock finished in 1:35.38, breaking a 2009 mark set by St. Mary's. 

In the 400 medley relay, Fago, Hallock, Hagy and Coryell again teamed up for a CAC record time of 3:52.42. 

Hallock captured first place in the 50 freestyle at 23.75, setting a new CAC Championship mark, while Anna Corley took first in the 200 IM with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:06.92, and Abby Cox secured first in the 500 freestyle at 5:09.75. 

The Eagle men took down two CAC records on the day, with the 200 freestyle relay of Alex Anderson, Sean Mayer, Dallas Tarkenton and Vance Solseth touching first in a CAC record and NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:23.18. 

Anderson later claimed first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.49, after setting a new CAC record time of 20.30 in Friday morning's prelims. 

The 400 medley relay of Anderson, Solseth, Mayer and Kenyon Huber-Wilker took top honors in an NCAA 'B' cut time of 3:21.71, while Dallas Tarkenton captured first in the 200 IM (1:53.97) and Tyler Gimple won the 500 freestyle (4:37.31).
