Mary Washington Men's Swimming Secures 16th Consecutive CAC Title; York's Kyle Walthall Named Swimmer of the Year

Mary Washington captured its 16th straight CAC men's swimming crown by winning 11 events and totaling 949 points en route to the 2016 championship on Sunday at St. Mary's. 

Salisbury finished as the runner-up in a tight race for second, as the Sea Gulls tallied 491 points. St. Mary's took third with 469 points, followed by York (434), Marymount (345) and Frostburg State (236). 

York senior Kyle Walthall was named the CAC Swimming Athlete of the Year for the second time in his career after winning both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes in record-breaking fashion. After breaking his own championship meet record in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday, Walthall capped off his CAC career with a conference and championship record time of 1:59.24 in the 200 on Sunday.

UMW head coach Abby Brethauer received Coach of the Year honors for the third consecutiva season, while UMW freshman Ricardo Bonilla-Vazquez took home the Rookie of the Year award for the Eagles. Bonilla-Vazquez was a part of three winning relays for the Eagles.

UMW's Zach Eisig kicked off Sunday's action with a victory in the 1650 freestyle, touching in 16:08.87, before York's Morgan Schreiber and Salisbury Will Gough each claimed their second individual titles of the weekend. Schreiber swept both backstroke events, winning the 200 on Sunday at 1:52.05, while Gough swept the spring freestyle events, taking the 100 in 45.60 on day three. 

UMW's Dallas Tarkenton captured individual gold in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.01 before teaming with Sean Mayer, Vance Solseth and Bonilla-Vazquez for a winning mark of 3:06.96 in the 400 freestyle relay. Tarkenton totaled seven golds throughout the weekend, three individual and four relays.
