Mary Washington Men and Women Take Early Lead at CAC Swimming Championships

The Mary Washington men's and women's swimming teams combined for five victories in the opening 10 events to take the early lead following day one of the CAC Swimming Championships on Friday at St. Mary's. 

On the women's side, UMW tallied 222 points behind an individual victory from Anna Corley and a pair of relay wins. York is in second after day one with 177 points, followed by St. Mary's (125), Frostburg State (112), Marymount (96), and Salisbury (87). 

The UMW men posted a first-day total of 226 points to take the lead, led by an individual win from Dallas Tarkenton and a relay victory. York is in second place with 161 points, ahead of Marymount (122), Salisbury (119), St. Mary's (113), and Frostburg State (52). 

Corley paced the UMW women with an individual victory in the 200 IM. Corley touched in an NCAA 'B' cut time of 2:04.61, and also contributed to the winning 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay squads. The 200 freestyle relay team of Corley, Carley Vaughn, Lauren Wood, and Shannon Coryell touched in 1:36.95. The 400 medley team of Julia Geskey, Corley, Megan Murphy, and Coryell posted a time of 3:53.13 to wrap up day one. 

Tarkenton won the 200 IM at 1:52.94, and also swam the leadoff leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay. Joining Tarkenton on the 200 freestyle relay, which finished in 1:23.84, were Garrett Ross, Dylan Gore, and Jake Schroth

Maddy Mann won the women's 500 freestyle with a time of 5:03.44, outdistancing second place by more than 10 seconds. The Spartan men captured first in the 400 medley relay, as Morgan Schreiber, Glaucio Silva, Jesse Tate, and Ian Kruper touched in 3:29.78. 

Frostburg State made history on day one of the championships as Macey Nitchie and Christian March each won the 50 freestyle, becoming the first CAC Champions in the history of the Bobcat swimming programs. Each topped their school records in the process, with Nitchie winning in 24.00 and March in 21.10. 

Salisbury's Pete Moyer won the 500 freestyle in 4:37.30 for the one SU victory of day one. 

Day two of the championship meet begins with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 6 p.m.
