Mary Washington Men & Women Grab Control of Lead at CAC Swimming Championship

Mary Washington took control of first place in both the men's and women's standings to headline Saturday's action on the third day of the CAC Swimming Championships at St. Mary's. 

After three days of competition and 24 events, Mary Washington now holds the lead on both the men's and women's sides of the standings. The UMW women overtook first place from York on Saturday, owning a 556-518 edge over the Spartans entering Sunday's final day of competition. On the men's side, meanwhile, UMW maintained its advantage with 590 points, out-distancing second-place York (453.5) by nearly 150 points. 

The UMW women captured gold in three events on Saturday, beginning with the 200 medley relay of Carley Vaughn, Mary Zagrobelny, Megan Murphy, and Grace Gartman in 1:47.95. Individually, Julia Geskey won her second individual event of the meet in the 400 IM (4:29.65), while Megan Murphy took gold in the 100 butterfly (56.82). 

Frostburg State's Macey Nitchie won her second freestyle event of the championships, this time winning the 200 freestyle at 1:52.34, while teammate Maddie Weinberger touched first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.98. 

York's Justine Wantz was the other individual winner of the day in the 100 backstroke (58.26). 

On the men's side, York captured a trio of first-place finishes on Saturday. The 200 medley relay of Morgan Schreiber, Tyler Maggio, Jesse Tate, and Trevor Brinton captured gold in 1:33.08, while Schreiber won the 100 backstroke at 51.13. Keven Stahl won his second individual gold of the meet for the Spartans, this time in the 400 IM at 3:59.13. 

Salisbury's Joshua Brown also secured his second individual gold, taking top honors in the 100 butterfly. Other individual champions on Saturday included Frostburg State's Christian March in the 100 breaststroke (55.75) and Mary Washington's Joshua Duke in the 200 freestyle (1:43.13).
