Christopher Newport Sophomore Jeff Dover and Freshman Jonathan Graham Sweep CAC Men's Track & Field Weekly Awards

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport swept the first indoor weekly awards of the year as sophomore Jeff Dover and freshman Jonathan Graham were chosen as the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Dec. 8, 2015.

Christopher Newport sophomore Jeff Dover was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 800 meters and finishing second in the mile at the CNU Holiday Open. In the 800, Dover posted a time of 1:57.95, which was nearly two seconds faster than the next closest competitor and ranks fourth in Division III. He also was the runner-up in the mile after crossing the line in 4:20.16, which is the second-fastest in the nation and sixth-fastest in CNU history. He capped off the day by running a leg on the team's top 4x400-relay, which won its heat and finished fifth overall with a time of 3:31.58.

Christopher Newport freshman Jonathan Graham was awarded the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after tying the CAC record in the pole vault in his first collegiate meet. Graham cleared 14'-9" to finish second overall and first among Division III competitors. His mark ranks fifth in the nation.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All seven CAC teams competed opened up their 2015-16 indoor seasons this past weekend ... Christopher Newport, Mary Washington and Salisbury each competed at the CNU Holiday Open, Penn State Harrisburg, Wesley and York traveled to the Bow-Tie Classic at Ursinus, and Frostburg State competed at the Marietta First Glimpse ... Frostburg State's J.R. Lowery set two school records and hit two ECAC qualifying marks with a win and a second-place finish. Lowery set school records in the shot put (54'-1") and weight throw (53'-1"), which rank first and fifth in the nation, respectively, after opening weekend ... UMW was led by Dylon Garrett's eighth-place finish in the pole vault at 12'-9.5" ... Penn State Harrisburg's Edgar Makimoto set a school record en route to first place in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:31.65 ... Salisbury had two top finishes at CNU, with senior Luke Campbell taking first in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.14 and sophomore Zach Schmelz claiming top honors in the 400 meters at 51.13. Campbell's time ranks second in the nation, while Schmelz's is seventh ... Wesley's Anthony Simpson placed first set a school record in the 60-meter dash at 6.78, which currently ranks first in the nation. De'Vaughn Trader posted a second-place finish in the long jump at 22'-2", ranking him ninth in the nation ... York's Darnell Tillman won the 400 meter dash at 50.55 and Alex Palescandolo won the shot put with a school-record mark of 49'-0.75". Tillman's time is currently fourth in the nation while Palescandolo's mark is seventh nationally.
