Christopher Newport Juniors Ryan Scott and Wesley Shrieves Sweep CAC Men's Track & Field Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- The Christopher Newport junior duo of Ryan Scott and Wesley Shrieves swept the CAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards for Jan. 17, 2017.

Christopher Newport junior Ryan Scott was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles at the CNU Quadrangular on Friday at the Freeman Center. In the hurdles, he posted a time of 8.27, which ranks as the fastest time in the CAC this year and the fifth-fastest mark in the NCAA. He also posted a time of 7.09 in the 60, which equaled the top clocking in the CAC this season. It also ranks 39th in the country.

Field Athlete of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Wesley Shrieves was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after breaking the CAC record in the long jump at the CNU Quadrangular. Shrieves won the event with a distance of 7.08 meters, establishing a new standard in the CAC. His jump broke the previous mark of 7.05 meters set by teammate Dominique Torres in 2014. Additionally, Shrieves equaled the top clearance in the high jump during the meet after topping 1.95 meters, a personal record. In track events, Shrieves came in second overall in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.10.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC teams opened the 2017 portion of their indoor campaigns this past weekend ... Penn State Harrisburg and Wesley begin their 2017 seasons this week, while Salisbury opens up on Jan. 27 ... Frostburg State opened the 2017 season at the WVU Open at West Virginia University. Freshman Kevon Adams won a pair of events for Frostburg State - the 200-meter dash (23.58) and the long jump (6.59 meters/21ft. 7.5in.) ... Mary Washington freshman David Danek captured first place in the high jump at the CNU Quadrangular on Friday, leaping 1.95 meters ... York junior Grant Dell won the 1,000 meters at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Saturday in Lancaster. Dell posted a school record time of 2:37.77, winning the race by over a second. James Novak also earned a win for the Spartans in the high jump (1.88m), winning the event by 0.05 meters.
