Christopher Newport's Clark Edwards and Penn State Harrisburg's Alex White Named CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport freshman Clark Edwards and Penn State Harrisburg junior Alex White were selected as the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Dec. 11, 2018.

Making his indoor debut, Christopher Newport freshman Clark Edwards won the mile at the CNU Holiday Open on Sunday at the Freeman Center. During the race, he posted a converted time of 4:16.78, which currently stands as the fastest in NCAA Division III this year. It also ranks 10th on Christopher Newport's all-time performance list. Along with his work in the mile, Edwards also ran the second leg on the squad's top 4x400-relay unit, which finished in 3:27.30. That placed the foursome fourth at the meet.

 

Field Athlete of the Week

Penn State Harrisburg's Alex White hung with the best performers at the Lehigh Fast Times Before Finals meet that included NCAA Division I and Division II athletes. The junior was the second-highest finisher among Division III competitors in the high jump thanks to his top bound of 1.90 meters. That mark puts him eighth in Division III. He also just missed out on a top-three finish in the long jump after recording a top leap of 6.84 meters in the event. His long jump mark is ranked No. 19 in the country.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Frostburg State's John Kerns had a record-setting performance for Frostburg as it opened the season at the Marietta First Glimpse ... Kerns was one of just two throwers to land over 17 meters in the weight throw as he won the event with a 17.31 meter throw ... The effort also reset his own school record by nearly half a meter...Salisbury's Jeffrey McInnis turned in an impressive performance at the CNU Holiday Open on Sunday afternoon. McInnis earned the Sea Gulls second victory of the day placing first in the long jump posting a jump of 21' 8" to earn the win...Salisbury's Conner Masteran turned in a record breaking performance at the CNU Holiday Open on Sunday afternoon. Masteran picked up a win in the 5,000-meter run coming home in a time of 15:07.65 to post a new record in the event. The new time breaks the record he himself previously set in the even last season when he posted a time of 15:17.25.
