YORK, Pa. -- Wesley sophomore Ashley Royer and Christopher Newport freshman Aubrey Bates were selected as the CAC Softball Players of the Week for Feb. 27, 2017.

Wesley sophomore Ashley Royer was named the CAC Player of the Week after leading the Wolverines to a pair of doubleheader sweeps over the weekend. Royer hit .736 (10-for-13) with a home run, 13 RBIs, three doubles, and two triples in sweeps over Lincoln (Pa.) and Swarthmore. She registered at least one hit and one RBI in all four games, and posted a slugging percentage of 1.538. Royer leads the CAC in batting average, slugging percentage and triples.

Christopher Newport freshman Aubrey Bates was tabbed as the CAC Pitcher of the Week after picking up two wins and a save to begin her career at CNU. Bates has pitched 16.0 innings in three appearances, including two starts. Her 0.88 ERA has helped lead the Captains to a 7-1 start to the season. She has struck out 11 and walked four while allowing just two earned runs and 11 hits.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

In the NFCA Feb. 22 rankings, Christopher Newport is No. 15 and Salisbury is receiving votes ... Christopher Newport's Jenna Sprinkle has led the Captains to a 7-1 start with 16 hits and 11 runs batted in. The senior first baseman has at least one hit in all eight games so far this season ... Frostburg State senior Jessica Dubbs is leading the Bobcats at the plate through the first six games this spring. She is hitting .571 with 12 hits, three runs, one RBI and three stolen bases ... Mary Washington freshman Danielle Newman batted .417 in her first four collegiate games, going 5-for-12 at the plate with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI. She added a pair of walks and three stolen bases ... Salisbury sophomore Shannon Powell appeared in two games in relief for the Sea Gulls, pitching in both Salisbury wins. She surrendered no earned runs through six innings in the circle, going 2 2/3 against Hood and 3 1/3 to earn the victory against Olivet. Batting from the leadoff spot, Leanne Collins batted .467 with three extra-base hits and six RBIs for the Sea Gulls at the Triangle Classic in North Carolina. She also scored six times and was a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen bases ... Wesley's Lindsay Siok earned three wins on the mound last week, striking out 14 batters with a 2.10 ERA ... York sophomore Joanna Marmo opened the year with a .500 (6-for-12) average with four runs scored, two RBI and a double in a 2-2 week for the Spartans.
