FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury sophomore Dakotah Fraley and Christopher Newport sophomore Aubrey Bates were tabbed as the CAC Softball Players of the Week for Feb. 26, 2018.

Salisbury sophomore Dakotah Fraley was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after hitting .600 (9-for-15) with four doubles, a home run, five RBIs and six runs scored in a 3-1 week for the Sea Gulls. She had three multi-hit games and slugged 1.067% on the week. The transfer made the most of her first game in marron and gold, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a home run while driving in four runs in a 12-2 victory over Keystone. 

Pitcher of the Week

Christopher Newport sophomore Aubrey Bates was named the CAC Pitcher of the Week after posting a pair of wins on the mound last week and totaling 13 strikeouts in just 11 innings of work. Bates allowed only one run and eight hits through her two victories, registering an ERA of 0.64 in wins over Randolph-Macon and Davis & Elkins. She opened the week with eight strikeouts in a complete-game, 2-1 win over Randolph-Macon. Bates followed that up with five strikeouts while surrendering three hits in 4.0 shutout innings vs. Davis & Elkins.

Seven CAC softball teams have opened the 2018 campaign, with Penn State Harrisburg set to begin its season later this week ... Christopher Newport is ranked tied for No. 14 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Preseason National Rankings ... Frostburg State freshman Taylor McCarty hit .375 over the first four games of the season with six hits, two doubles, a home run and three RBIs ... Freshman Rachel Porchie gained three hits in five at bats in Mary Washington's season-opening twinbill against Messiah, with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI ... Salisbury sophomore Alexis Layton started the season 2-0 in the circle, striking out eight in 7.1 innings of work ... Megan Harmon leads Southern Virginia in batting average, on-base % and slugging %, and has two stolen bases and has recorded a hit in each contest ... Wesley freshman Dori Loukopoulos earned her first collegiate win in a complete-game effort against Swarthmore. In her first action in a Wesley uniform, Brandi Dalious went 3-for-6 with a home run and a double. Dalious slugged 1.167 and reached base at a .625 clip ... York senior Savannah Zittle hit .545 (6-for-11) with eight RBIs and five runs scored in a 2-2 start to the season for the Spartans. Sophomore pitcher Ginger Lewis tossed a no-hitter in the Spartans 3-0 win over Alverno.
