Christopher Newport Junior Meaghan Galvin and Salisbury Sophomore Gianna Falcone Earn CAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport junior Meaghan Galvin and Salisbury sophomore Gianna Falcone were awarded as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for Feb. 23, 2016.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Meaghan Galvin was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying five goals and two assists during the Captains' 18-9 season-opening win at Shenandoah on Saturday. She converted both of her free-position attempts and also added a game-high seven draw controls during the contest. Her seven points equaled the second-highest single-game total of her career.

Salisbury sophomore Gianna Falcone was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after notching eight saves in the Sea Gulls' season-opening 9-5 victory over Stevenson. Falcone allowed just four goals in 55:13, posting a 66.7 save percentage in the win.

In the IWLCA Preseason Rankings, York is ranked No.8 and Salisbury is No. 9 ... In the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Rankings, Salisbury is No. 7 and York is No. 8 ... Christopher Newport freshman goalkeeper Emma Walsh recorded 13 saves vs. Shenandoah, the most ever for a CNU freshman in a collegiate debut. Her 13 saves topped the previous record of 11 set by Hannah Wilkerson against Adrian in 2011. Five of Walsh's saves came on free-position shots as the Captains held the Hornets scoreless on seven of their 10 eight-meter attempts during the game ... Mary Washington opened with wins over Shenandoah and 16th-ranked Washington & Lee. Sophomore Holly Hudson leads the Eagles with five points through two games, with Sabrina Elliott and Mackenzie Maguire each adding four goals ... Marymount freshman goalkeeper Holly Reik turned away 14 shots in her collegiate debut against Meredith. Freshman Jessica Crew led the Saints' attack with two goals and an assist in the 15-10 setback ... Shelby Newman had a great all-around game in St. Mary's season-opening win at Virginia Wesleyan, helping first-year head coach Erin McDonnell pick up her first collegiate coaching win. Newman recorded a hat trick and added an assist while leading the defensive effort with a career-best six caused turnovers and four ground balls ... Salisbury's Megan Wallenhorst tallied two goals and two assists against Stevenson ... York's Allison Kolacy tallied a team-high four points on a goal and three assists in the Spartans' lone game of the week, a 15-6 win over Lebanon Valley. Megan Strauch scooped up four ground balls, dished out one assist, had two draw controls and one caused turnovers in the Spartans' win.
