YORK, Pa. -- Marymount junior Abby Wescott and St. Mary's senior Mackenzie Rayburn were selected as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for Feb. 27, 2017.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Marymount junior Abby Wescott was selected as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying 14 points on nine assists and five goals in a 2-0 week for the Saints. Against Goucher, Wescott posted a game-high nine points with five assists and four goals. Against Widener, she notched four assists and score once. Wescott also added four ground balls on the week. She leads the CAC in points (20) and assists (11) this season.

St. Mary's senior Mackenzie Rayburn was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring a strong defensive week for the Seahawks in wins over Virginia Wesleyan and Dickinson. Rayburn started the week with team-bests of three ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers in a home-opening win over Virginia Wesleyan. She followed that up with a career-best six ground balls and season-best two caused turnovers against Dickinson while holding the Red Devils' top scoring threat, all-region player Maddy Siebold, to just one goal on six shots. The Seahawks held both Virginia Wesleyan and Dickinson to just five goals in the victories.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC teams are ranked in the IWLCA National Rankings, with Salisbury at No. 5, York at No. 10, Mary Washington at No. 16 and St. Mary's at No. 18 ... Christopher Newport sophomore Sarah Culver scored 13 goals last week, all of which came over the course of 90 minutes of game action. On Friday, in the second half against Washington (Md.), she led CNU's comeback attempt with six goals. That equaled the all-time program record for goals in a half. The following day, she one-upped herself with seven strikes during Christopher Newport's 17-14 triumph at Haverford. That total established a new career-high for the sophomore, eclipsing her previous standard established 24 hours earlier. Overall, her 13 goals during the two-day stretch marked the second-most by a Captain in consecutive games in program history, trailing only Ashton Marshall's 14 tallies during back-to-back contests at Methodist and Guilford in 2012 ... Frostburg State sophomore Morgan Cavey finished the week with six goals and two assists in two games ... Sophomore Mackenzie Maguire turned in a banner week as Mary Washington easily defeated Shenandoah and Lynchburg. For the week, she scored 10 goals and added one assist. She scored four goals and added an assist in a 15-5 win at Shenandoah on Wednesday, and added six scores in a 15-2 win over Lynchburg on Saturday. She scored on 10 of her 13 shots for the week ... Marymount is now 3-0 on the year after wins over Goucher and Widener last week. Junior defender Liah Agouras leads the league in caused turnovers (6) and ranks 10th in ground balls (8). Last week, Agouras tallied five ground balls and caused four turnovers ... Erika Kopf led No. 18 St. Mary's in a 2-0 week with five goals and two assists. Kopf began the week with a hat trick and an assist in the home-opening win over Virginia Wesleyan before adding a career-best three ground balls, two goals, and an assist in a close win over Dickinson. She also contributed two caused turnovers and a draw control during the week ... Southern Virginia's Sydney Winterton scored a pair of goals in the loss at Hood, but suffered a season-ending injury near the end of the game ...Fallon Fore put away seven goals and added an assist in Wesley's 22-10 win over Gwynedd Mercy. Fore also added five draw controls, three caused turnovers and three ground balls in the victory ... York junior goalkeeper Charlotte Wright led the Spartans to an 11-5 win this week as 10th-ranked York has started the season 2-0. In the win over Dickinson, Wright notched seven saves and allowed five goals as the Spartans rolled to victory. For the year, Wright has played 100:30 in goal and allowed six goals and with 10 saves. She owns a 3.58 goals against average and a .625 save percentage. Freshman Meghan Fox scored a career-high five points on four goals and an assist against Dikcinson. For the season, Fox leads the Spartans in scoring with seven points on six goals and one assist. She has grabbed three ground balls and four draw controls in two games.
