FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --  Wesley junior Fallon Fore and York junior Nicole Clauter were named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 5, 2018.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Wesley junior Fallon Fore was tabbed as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying eight goals and two assists in the Wolverines' record-breaking 26-17 win over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday. The 26 goals set a new program record for scoring for Wesley. In addition to her 10 points, Fore also notched 12 draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win.  Her eight goals and 12 draw controls were one shy of tying the program's single-game record in both categories.

 

Defensive Player of the Week

York junior Nicole Clauter was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Spartan defense to a 9-4 win over 10th-ranked Franklin & Marshall last Wednesday. Clauter powered a defense that held the Diplomats to just four goals on 14 shots on goal. Individually, Clauter held preseason All-American and reigning Inside Lacrosse National Attacker of the Year Paige Moriarity to zero points on just one shot during her time on the field. The Diplomats entered the game having scored 21 goals in their first two games, and Moriarity had tallied seven points in F&M's first two games. Clauter finished the contest with two ground balls, four draw controls and one caused turnover.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC women's lacrosse teams are ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national rankings - Salisbury is No. 5, York is No. 6, Mary Washington is No. 7, and St. Mary's is No. 24 ... Christopher Newport junior Sarah Culver led the Captains with eight goals in a 1-1 week. She posted her second straight five-goal outing of the season on Tuesday during a 15-10 victory at Shenandoah. She returned on Saturday with her third consecutive hat-trick after notching three strikes against No. 15 Catholic. Along with her offensive efforts, Culver also added a career-high five draw controls against the Cardinals ... Frostburg State freshman Jara Matlick totaled 18 points with 10 goals and eight assists in three games. In a 20-10 win over Washington & Jefferson, she registered six goals and four assists ... Junior Mackenzie Maguire led Mary Washington with 13 points in two wins this week. She posted three goals and five assists in a 17-6 win over Randolph-Macon, and then added two goals and three assists in a 12-11 win at Meredith ... Marymount senior Abby Wescott put up another high-point total through two games this past week, putting away a game-high seven against Elizabethtown and a game-high six against Guilford to move the Saints to 4-0 to open the season. Against the Elizabethtown, she notched her 100th career goal ... She leds the CAC in assists and points, and ranks top 10 nationally in each category. Junior Alex Delgado had a pair of solid performances on the back line for the Saints, coming through with game-high caused turnovers in both victories over Elizabethtown and Guilford with three in each ... St. Mary's goalkeeper Emma Brown started the week with a career-best 14 saves in a loss to No. 15 Catholic before besting her career mark with 17 stops against Dickinson. Lacey Brown paced the Seahawks in scoring with seven points on five goals and two assists ... Salisbury senior Allie Hynson scooped up four groundballs, caused three turnovers, and came up with seven draw controls in the Sea Gulls' 12-8 win over No. 8 Washington & Lee on Saturday. Senior Dana King tallied six goals in the win vs. W&L. All six of King's goals came in the second half, while she was 2-for-2 on free position shots. Her six goals came on just seven shots, all on goal, which was good for an 85.7% shooting percentage ... Southern Virginia freshman Natalie Rice picked up seven ground balls in two close losses last week. In a 15-14 loss to Greensboro, she caused five turnovers and gathered four ground balls. Sophomore Hannah King finished the week with nine goals and one assist, including a seven-goal performance against Greensboro ... In the Wesley midfield, Paige Brehm caused six turnovers, picked up five ground balls, controlled four draws and scored four times in the Wolverines' 26-17 win over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday ... York sophomore Devin Hursey led the Spartans to a 9-4 win over F&M with four points on two goals and two assists. She also had two caused turnovers and three ground balls in the win and helped the Spartans go 25-for-26 on the clear.
