FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport's Cat Leighty & Salisbury's Anna Wehland were honored as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 11, 2019.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport's Cat Leighty collected 11 points in her only appearance of the week during a 19-12 victory over Roanoke on Tuesday in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her 11 total points marked the most by a Captain in five years and equaled the third-highest single-game total in school history. Meanwhile, her seven assists also marked the third-highest total in program history and the most since 2010.

Salisbury junior Anna Wehland caused seven turnovers and came up with nine ground balls in a 2-0 week for No. 5 Salisbury. In a 14-10 win at No. 23 Rowan University, Wehland caused four turnovers while also scooping up four ground balls. She then caused three turnovers and came up with five ground balls in Salisbury's 15-8 victory against Washington College.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

York's Nicole Clauter led the Spartans to an overtime win over St. John Fisher in Florida on Tuesday. She tallied three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win. Her most important caused turnover and ground ball came in overtime that gained the Spartans possession which allowed them to win the game. For the year, Clauter leads the Spartans in draw controls (23), ground balls (9) and caused turnovers (10)...Mary Washington's Hanna Ashby registered 15 saves this week as #2 UMW split contests with #4 Franklin & Marshall and Messiah on the road. She made eight stops against F&M and seven against Messiah. She also surpassed 300 career saves last week...Salisbury's Alexis Strobel tallied nine points in a 2-0 week for No. 5 Salisbury, which came on two goals and seven assists. In Salisbury's 14-10 win at No. 23 Rowan University, Strobel dished out four assists while notching one goal. She then tallied three assists while adding one goal in a 15-8 win against Washington College...York's Regan Cook had another strong game including netting the game-winning goal in overtime against #17 St. John Fisher on Tuesday in York's lone game of the week. Cook finished the game with two goals and one assist in the 10-9 win. She tallied the game-winning goal 1:06 into the overtime period to give the Spartans their third win of the year...Mary Washington's Julia Albert surpassed the 100 career goal plateau this week, as UMW split with Franklin & Marshall and Messiah. She had nine goals and five assists for the week, including two goals against F&M and seven goals and five assists against Messiah...Southern Virginia's Natalie Rice's performance led the Knights to another perfect week going 2-0 while extending the team's win-streak to five games. Rice for the week recorded nine goals and a pair of assists combining for 11 points. She collected 10 ground balls for the week and shot 47.4 percent and shots on goal at a 73.7 percent clip.
