York Freshman Georgia Gillcrist and Salisbury Junior Rachel Anderson Tabbed as CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. --  York freshman Georgia Gillcrist and Salisbury junior Rachel Anderson secured CAC Women's Soccer weekly honors for Sept. 6, 2016. 

Offensive Player of the Week

York freshman Georgia Gillcrist was honored as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after notching two goals and an assist in a 2-0 weekend for the Spartans at the Rowan Prof Soccer Classic. In her first collegiate game, Gillcrist assisted on the Spartans' first goal of the year in a 2-0 win over Fredonia. She then broke out in a big way in the 5-0 win over Emmanuel, scoring the Spartans' first two goals en route to the win.

Salisbury junior Rachel Anderson was selected as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the Salisbury defense to a 3-1 win over Meredith on Friday. Anderson and the SU defense allowed just four shots on goal and one corner kick en route to the season-opening victory.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All 10 CAC women's soccer teams kicked off the 2016 season last week, posting a combined 10-7 record ... Christopher Newport's Victoria Perry factored into four of the Captains' seven goals in a 7-0 season-opening win against Austin College. Perry scored one goal and added three assists, including a helper on the gamewinner, and moved into second all-time in career assists (22) and tied for fourth in career points (82) with the five-point performance ... Frostburg State opened with one-goal losses to Bridgewater (Va.) and Catholic ... Mary Washington opened the season with a 1-0 loss at Houghton, but responded with a 4-0 win at Elmira. Four different Eagles scored goals in the game, including the first collegiate scores for Marissa Wood and Brielle Mitchell ... Marymount's Karen Reyes kicked off her collegiate career in impressive fashion over the weekend in the Marymount Invitational, leading the Saints to a 1-1 tournament record with a goal and two assists. The Saints fell to Eastern Mennonite 3-2 in the opener before bouncing back with a 2-0 shutout over Emory & Henry ... St. Mary's went 1-1 last week, falling to McDaniel 4-2 and defeating Randolph-Macon 1-0. Gillian Sawyer scored in both contests for the Seahawks ... Salisbury's Jenna Taylor was the difference maker against Meredith, scoring twice. Taylor opened the scoring for the Sea Gulls in the 18th minute and closed it out in the 77th of the 3-1 win ... Southern Virginia's Tatiana Monsen opened the season with a hat trick in 10-0 shutout over Sweet Briar ... Wesley's Aleya Cummings was kept scoreless in the Wolverines' 2-0 season-opening loss to Goucher, but exploded for four goals against Cairn on Saturday afternoon, helping the Wolverines to a 7-0 victory ... York freshman goalkeeper Brittany Cullison tallied a pair of wins in the cage last week. She became the sixth Spartan freshman to earn the opening night start and the fourth freshman goalie to earn a win the season opener. For the week, Cullison played 135 minutes with four save and zero goals allowed.
