Kerico, Fago And Brethauer Sweep Women's Swim Awards As Mary Washington Clinches Its 23rd-Straight CAC Crown

Mary Washington junior Amber Kerico was named the Athlete Of The Year, freshman teammate Katie Fago was named the Rookie of the Year and mentor Abby Brethauer was named the Coach of the Year after Mary Washington picked up its 23rd-straight CAC Women's Swimming team championship trophy.

UMW totaled 1,054 points to win the title, followed by host St. Mary's (628), Marymount (464, York (401), Salisbury (246) and Frostburg State (146).

Kerico completed her strong championship weekend by winning the 200 breaststroke Sunday in an NCAA "A" cut time of 2:17.54.

Another highlight of the meet was the completion of a perfect four years in the CAC Championships by St. Mary's senior Kelly Heyde.  The Seahawk standout is the first CAC swimmer to win gold medals in the same three events - 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 butterfly - all four years of her CAC career.

UMW's Jessica Singer started the night by winning the 1,650 freestyle in 17:31.37.  Senior teammate Lindsay Ancellotti followed with the gold medal in the 200 backstroke (2:07.59) and freshman Stephanie Hallock touched the wall first in the 100 freestyle (52.98).

Kerico then won the 200 breaststroke before Heyde broke UMW gold medal run by winning the 200 butterfly (2:07.07) in the final individual event of the meet.  UMW then finished the meet with an impressive win in the 400 freestyle relay (3:34.16).
