Mary Washington Women Win 4 of 5 Events To Take Big Lead On First Day Of 2013 CAC Swim Championships

Mary Washington won both relay events and two of the three individual events, scoring at least four of the top six positions in each of the three individual events, to take a triple-digit lead after the first day of the 2013 CAC Women's Swimming Championships at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

UMW scored 299 points in five events on the first day of competition.  St. Mary's enters the second of three days of competition in second place with 177 points, followed by Marymount (130), York (115), Salisbury (67) and Frostburg State (57).

Junior Jessica Singer (5:00.89) was the first of five Eagles among the top six finishers in the 500 freestyle while freshman Stephanie Hallock (24.24) was the first of four Eagles to place among the top six in the 50 freestyle.

St. Mary's returning All-American Kelly Heyde broke up UMW's win streak with a gold medal in the 200 IM (2:07.99), but the Eagles had the next five swimmers to touch the wall.  UMW also captured top honors in the 200 free relay (1:37.48) and the 400 medley relay (3:52.48).

Singer and Heyde recorded NCAA "B" cuts while the victorious 400 medley relay team set a new CAC record.
