Mary Washington, Marymount and St. Mary's Women's Swimming Earn Tight Weekend Victories

Mary Washington and Marymount each posted narrow single-digit women's swimming victories while St. Mary's earned a tight triumph of its own as all six CAC squads were in action this weekend. 

In CAC action, Marymount earned a hard-fought 104-101 triumph at York. The Saints improved to 4-1-1 overall and 1-2 in the CAC with the win, while the Spartans drop to 4-9, 1-4. Claire Thomas posted two wins to pace the Saints, securing gold in the 200 freestyle (2:03.91) and 100 freestyle (55.57). 

Freshman Kacey Banks led the way for the Spartans with a pair of individual wins in the 200 butterfly (2:20.55) and 500 freestyle (5:43.42) while also grabbing second in the 200 IM (2:24.90). 

The other CAC meet of the weekend featured St. Mary's defeating Salisbury 143-118. 

St. Mary's improved to 11-3, 4-1 CAC while the Sea Gulls fell to 3-6, 2-3 CAC. Seahawk junior Cara Machlin left the Maggs Physical Activities Center Pool with four gold medals and 40 points to pace the Seahawks while seniors Hannah Hafey and Brooke Raab each picked up three golds.

For Salisbury, freshman Bizu Baldinazzo took two of the Sea Gulls four victories, winning the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2:15.72 and the 100-meter freestyle at 1:02.10. 

In non-conference action, Mary Washington defeated Gettysburg, 134-128, on Saturday at Goolrick Natatorium. The Eagles improved to 7-2 on the year. Winners for the Eagles included the 200 yard medley relay of Katie FagoAlex ParrishShannon Coryell, and Steph Hallock at 1:50.15; Hallock in the 200 free at 1:58.96; Fago in the 100 backstroke with a new school record and NCAA cut of 57.50; Abby Cox in the 200 fly at 2:14.27; Coryell in the 50 free at 24.90; Hallock in the 100 free at 54.81; Cox in the 500 free at 5:20.78; and Anna Corley in the 200 IM at 2:14.53.

On Friday, Frostburg State fell at Davis & Elkins 97-77. Freshman Macey Nitchie's record-breaking time in the 200-yard freestyle highlighted the night for the Bobcats. Nitchie's first-place time of 1:59.98 in the 200 free broke a 31-year old school record of 2:01.00. She followed up her record-setting performance with a second-place time of 25.95 in the 50-yard freestyle, and rounded out her individual day with second in the 100-yard free at 57.58.
