Mary Washington Races to 26th Straight CAC Women's Swimming Crown; UMW's Anna Corley Claims Swimmer of the Year

For the 26th year in a row, the Mary Washington women's swimming team took home CAC hardware at the conference meet as the Eagles claimed the CAC Championship yet again with another dominating performance on Sunday final day of the championships at St. Mary's. 

UMW won 17 of 18 events and tallied 916 points to collect top honors. Just 43 points separated second through fifth, with York securing second wtih 457 points, followed by Salisbury (439), St. Mary's (430), Marymount (414) and Frostburg State (282). 

UMW junior Anna Corley was tabbed as the CAC Swimmer of the Year after notching six golds throughout the three-day event, three individually and three relays. Corley set one individual conference record and was a part of three relay records during the meet. On Sunday, she won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.80. Eagle head coach Abby Brethauer was named Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year. 

York freshman Madeline Mann was honored as the Rookie of the Year. Mann was the lone non-UMW swimmer to take home a gold medal, winning the 200 freestyle on Saturday. 

UMW's Steph Hallock was a part of two record-breaking times on Sunday, setting new CAC and championship meet records in the 100 freestyle (51.36), and also teaming with Shannon Coryell, Lauren Wood, and Ashley Walnut for conference and championship records in  the 400 freestyle relay (3:29.47).

Walnut won her second distance freestyle event on Sunday, touching first in the 1650 free at 17:39.98 to open up action on day three. 

Hannah Hagy and Megan Murphy also secured their second individual victories of the meet on Sunday, with Hagy taking top honors in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.63) and Murphy winning the 200 butterfly (2:08.31).
