York's Wantz & Salisbury's Russell Selected CAC Swimmers of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the second week of the 2019-20 swimming campaign. Salisbury junior Kyle Russell earned CAC Men's Swimmer of the Week accolades, while York senior Justine Wantz claimed CAC Women's Swimmer of the Week honors.


WOMEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Justine Wantz - York (Pa.)

York senior Justine Wantz had another big meet as the Spartans opened their CAC slate with a win at Salisbury. Wantz earned a pair of wins and a second place finish for the Green and White on Saturday. Wantz won the 200 free in a time of 2:17.63 and followed that with a victory in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.16). Wantz finished second in the 50 free (no time provided). Wantz now has four first place finishes and one runner up finish in her two meets this year.


MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Kyle Russell - Salisbury

Salisbury junior Kyle Russell won three races against York. Individually, Russell earned victories in the 50- and 100-meter breaststroke. Russell teamed with Richie Baker, Brandon Hoagland and Josh Browm to pick up a win in the medley relay.

LEAGUE NOTES

York junior Connor McIlroy led the Spartans to a win in their Capital Athletic Conference opener at Salisbury University on Saturday. McIlroy picked up two wins and a third place finish for the Spartans in the meet. McIlroy won the 200 free in a time of 2:01.45 while he also touched the wall first in the 400 free with a time of 4:24.15. He finished third in the 100 Back with a time of 1:06.37. The wins are the first of the year for McIlroy...Kolin Hoffman gained a pair of victories as Mary Washington dropped a 136-126 decision at Division I Howard University on Saturday. He opened the Eagles' list in the win column with a victory in the 200 yard freestyle, at 1:46.73, and then came back to win the 500 yard freestyle at 5:01.06...Sydney Hall won a pair of individual races and anchored a winning relay as the Eagles defeated Division I Howard University on Saturday, 153-124. She took first in the 50 yard freestyle at 25.04, and then won the 100 yard freestyle at 54.85. She was also the anchor on the winning 400 yard freestyle relay (3:44.22)....St. Mary's sophomore Lucas Wheal secured the first-place spot in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 23.22. Wheal followed that performance with another first-place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 50.43. In addition, Wheal was a member of the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team that finished first with a time of 1:32.82. Wheal's performance led the Seahawks to a 108-88 victory over Marymount...Brenna Litynski edged the competition in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 26.35 for a first-place finish. Additionally, Litynski was a member of the 200 Yard Medley Relay team that finished first with a time of 1:56.94. Litynski's performance led the Seahawks to a 101-85 victory over Marymount...Salisbury freshman Kiki Graham won two races against York. Graham collected gold in the 50- and 100-meter butterfly.
