Frostburg State Junior Kayla Truesdel and Christopher Newport Junior Hannah Shoemaker Selected as CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State junior Kayla Truesdel and Christopher Nepwort junior Hannah Shoemaker were selected as the CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Dec. 6, 2016.

Frostburg State junior Kayla Truesdel was honored as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 60 and 200-meter dashes at the Marty Pushkin Classic hosted by West Virginia. Both of Truesdel's winning times rank third nationally. She crossed in 7.88 in the 60 and 26.22 in the 200, both ECAC Indoor qualifying times. She also helped the 4x400 relay team to a third-place finish in 4:35.73. 

Field Athlete of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Hannah Shoemaker was selected as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after posting the top Division III finish in a pair of throwing events at the CNU Holiday Open on Sunday. Shoemaker registered a 12.53-meter throw in the shot put and a 13.16-meter heave in the weight throw, both top-10 all-time marks in program history. Her shot put mark ranks 12th nationally.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All seven CAC women's teams opened their indoor campaigns this past weekend ... Frostburg State competed at the Marty Pushkin Classic at West Virginia. Along with Truesdel's efforts, junior Zoe Harris won the shot put in 10.75 meters ... Mary Washington junior Janel Moore kicked off the 2016-17 season on a high note on Saturday at Roanoke's Bast-Cregger Invitational. She was a part of the school record-breaking 4x200 relay which finished second with a time of 1:50.29, and also finished in fourth place in the 60 meters with a time of 8.16 seconds ... Salisbury competed at the CNU Holiday Open. Kyleigh Dumas posted a second-place finish in the pole vault (10'-08.00") in her first collegiate meet, while Delaney Tregoning placed third in the 800-meter dash at 2:26.43 ... Wesley sophomore thrower Jourdyn Beverly had a solid showing in her two events at the UMES Lid-Lifter. The sophomore faced all NCAA Division I competitors, placing third in the shot put with a toss of 11.74m and sixth in the weight throw with a 13.69m heave. Dieunise Desir placed fifth in the 800m (2:26.36) and second in the 3,000m (11:47.95), compiling 10 of the Wolverines 20 points at the meet.
