Frostburg State Senior Kayla Truesdel and Penn State Harrisburg Freshman Sarah Lehman Honored as CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Frostburg State senior Kayla Truesdel and Penn State Harrisburg freshman Sarah Lehman were honored as the CAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Dec. 5, 2017.

Frostburg State senior Kayla Truesdel was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after notching first-place finishes in the 60 and 200-meter dashes at West Virginia University's Marty Pushkin Classic. Truesdel ran to a time of 7.50 seconds in the 60-meter, beating the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifying time of 8.15 seconds. She also topped the ECAC qualifying time in the 200-meter (26.85 seconds) by over a full second, hitting a mark of 25.90. Both times rank atop the CAC.

Penn State Harrisburg freshman Sarah Lehman was tabbed as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after breaking the CAC record in the triple jump. Lehman posted a mark of 11.33 meters at the River Hawk Opener hosted by Susquehanna, breaking the previous CAC record of 11.31 meters set by Salisbury's Ashley Jackson in 2015. Lehman also took first in the long jump at 5.19 meters. Her triple jump mark ranks second nationally and her long jump mark ranks 29th.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC teams opened their 2017-18 indoor track & field seasons last weekend ... Frostburg State competed at the Marty Pushkin Classic at West Virginia. 
Junior Holly Van Wie led Frostburg in the throwing events as she won the weight throw at 11.92 meters ... Junior Jillian Weisbeck turned in the highlight of the night on Friday for Mary Washington at the Bast-Cregger Invitational at Roanoke, with a first place finish in the 5K at 18:31.80. Janel Moore was second in the 300 meters at 42.20 ... Southern Virginia sophomore Sydney Bigelow won the one-mile run at Roanoke's Bast-Cregger Invitational with a personal-best time of 5:40.05. Placed third in the 3,000-meter race (10:50.37) in her first time ever running the race. SVU's Lexi Speas is the first ever women's pole-vaulter for the Knights. She placed third at 2.8 meters ... York sophomore Georgia Gillcrist led the Spartans in their season opening week at the Diplomat Open hosted by F&M on Saturday. Gillcrist posted a pair of fourth place finishes for the Spartans in the deep field. Gillcrist finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.50. She also finished fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:02.03.
