Christopher Newport Senior Rachel Conway Receives CAC Volleyball Player of the Week Award

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior Rachel Conway earned CAC Volleyball Player of the Week honors for Sept. 9, 2015.

Christopher Newport senior Rachel Conway was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week after leading No. 6 CNU to a 5-0 start on her way to MVP honors at the Captains Classic. She averaged 11.67 assists-per-set and helped lead the team to a .336 hitting percentage. Guiding the Captains to five straight three-set sweeps, she posted at least 30 assists in every match, including 38 against Meredith in the opener of the Captains Classic. She also added 10 digs against the Meredith, marking her first double-double of the year. Overall, the Captains hit at least .270 in all five matches during the week and eclipsed .300 in all but one.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport jumped from No. 6 to No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Week 1 Top-25, released Tuesday ... The Captains also received one first-place vote ... Mary Washington was just outside the top-25 among those receiving votes with three ... Along with Rachel Conway, CNU's Maddie McCann, Hannah Miller, and Briana Sutton also earned spots on the Captains Classic All-Tournament Team ... Sophomore Madelyn Torres helped Frostburg State to a 2-3 week by handing out 196 assists, along with 10 service aces, six kills and 42 digs ... She handed out 55 assists, posted three blocks, five service aces and 14 digs in a five-set win over Carlow ... Rachel Hendricks helped Mary Washington get off to a 4-1 start to the season, leading the team in kills with 69 and adding a .242 hitting average. Emma Olson and Emma Murphy were named to the all-tournament team for the Eagles at the Captains Classic ... Marymount's Emileigh Rettig put together a great line of stats through the first five matches of the season, leading the Saints in kills and digs. The Saints went 4-0 at the Rowan Tournament, the only team of the eight competing to post a perfect record ... Penn State Harrisburg freshman Maddie Chace was named to the all-tournament team at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic ... Karlee Vaillant led St. Mary's in blocks, kills, and hitting percentage for most of the weekend in California. Mimi Graf notched her second career double-double for the Seahawks with 19 assists, 13 digs, and 11 kills in a 3-1 win over George Fox ... Salisbury's Kacey Franz has stepped into the libero role for the Sea Gulls this year, already besting her career high in digs twice this year ... Wesley's Tionne Graves-Brown led the Wolverines to a 3-2 start with several stellar performances in the team's opening week, tying her career high of 15 kills on two separate occasions and nearly averaging a double-double for the week with 10.4 kills per match and 9.2 digs per match. Graves-Brown was named Tournament MVP of the Scranton Invitational, hosted by Scranton University over the weekend.
