St. Mary's Senior Alli Graf Honored as CAC Volleyball Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- St. Mary's senior Alli Graf was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 6, 2016.

St. Mary's senior Alli Graf was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week after tallying three double-doubles in a 4-1 opening week for the Seahawks. Graf totaled 75 kills (4.17 k/s), 60 digs (3.33 d/s), 17 assists (0.94 a/s), 12 service aces (0.67 sa/s), and 10 total blocks (0.56 b/s) throughout the week while hitting .289%. She notched career-bests of 20 kills and two solo blocks in a 3-1 win vs. Shenandoah. She tallied career-highs of six assists and four total blocks in a 3-1 win at Virginia Wesleyan before serving up a career-best five aces and 20 digs in a 3-1 win vs. Ferrum. Her three double-doubles came against Johns Hopkins (19k, 13d), Virginia Wesleyan (14k, 19d), and Ferrum (15k, 20d).

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport moved up two spots to No. 9 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25, while Mary Washington gained its first-ever national ranking at No. 24 ... Christopher Newport's Rachel Close was named the MVP of the Captains Classic after posting 69 digs for an average of 5.31 per set in four matches. Maddie McCann and Hope Webb also secured spots on the All-Tournament team for the Captains ... Frostburg State opened the year at 2-3, including a 2-2 mark at the Averett Tournament. The Bobcats notched wins over William Peace and Randolph. Junior Madelyn Torres opened the first week of the season with 123 assists in five matches. She registered 31 assists in a 3-1 win over William Peace ... Mary Washington opened the season with five wins, including a 3-1 win over No. 24 Randolph-Macon, then winning the Haverford Invitational with a 4-0 mark, including wins over Heidelberg and Clark. Senior Emma Olson, junior Rachel Hendricks, and freshman Savannah Powers all were named to the All-Tournament team ... Marymount senior Cailyn Thomas and junior Margaret McAlpin pieced together strong performances over the weekend at the Haverford Invitational, earning them both spots on the All-Tournament team. Senior Emileigh Rettig reached a career milestone in the opening match of the tournament, registering her 1,000th kill ... Penn State Harrisburg started the year with a 2-1 mark. The Lions dropped their season-opener at Hood, 3-1, on Thursday, but bounced back with home wins over Cedar Crest (3-0) and Albright (3-2) on Saturday ... Salisbury's Katie Stouffer notched 74 kills in four matches, averaging 4.83 per set during the Battlefield Classic. Salisbury won two matches in the event, including a five-set thriller against Gettysburg, where the Sea Gulls came back from 2-0 down. Stouffer was named to the All-Tournament Team ... Southern Virginia's Penny Gwynn had 19 kills in her first match as a Knight ... Wesley's Tionne Graves-Brown was the Wolverines' top attacker this weekend, averaging 4.50 kills per set in her four sets played. The outside hitter ripped 18 kills on just 35 attempts with only a single attacking error, leading the Wolverines to a pair of 3-0 sweeps ... York's Madyson Whitcomb had a great first week to open up her collegiate career in helping the Spartans go 3-1 at the La Roche Tournament. In 14 sets for the Spartans, Whitcomb hit .329 with 39 kills and 11 errors in 85 attempts. She added five service errors while she totaled 20 blocks (8 solos and 12 assists) in her 14 sets played.
