Marymount Preparing To Open New Turf Facility Overlooking Potomac River For Soccer And Lacrosse Teams In Fall 2011

The Marymount University mens and womens soccer and lacrosse teams will soon have a great new home field! Construction has been moving along fast on a synthetic-turf playing field at Long Bridge Park, a new facility with panoramic views of the Potomac River. The lighted field is scheduled to be ready for use starting in fall 2011. It will be one of four sports fields at the 28-acre Long Bridge Park.
Record Total Of 956 Student-Athletes Named To The 2009-10 CAC All-Academic Team

The Capital Athletic Conference announced that a record 956 student-athletes from the nine member institutions competing in 19 championship sports were named to the 2009-10 CAC All-Academic Team. Student-athletes in one or more CAC championship sports that attain a 3.20 grade point average (GPA) for the academic year earn a berth on the CAC All-Academic Team. Its the fourth-straight year the CAC totaled at least 900 on the All-Academic Team.

Former Stevenson baseball player Casey Davis '02, who founded the website DeafMD.org, was selected to represent the Baltimore Orioles as part of Major League Baseball and PEOPLE Magazine's "All-Stars Among Us," which debuted in 2009 and recognizes individuals who are serving their communities in extraordinary ways.

Five To Be Inducted In Mary Washington's 15th Hall Of Fame Class

The University of Mary Washington Athletic Hall of Fame has announced its 2010 induction class, the 15th group of inductees. Included are former swimmers Mariah Butler and Kim Myers, soccer standouts Johanna Klein and Craig Gillan, and field hockey star Stephanie Lowe. The class will be inducted at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet on October 22, 2010.

On Wednesday, the Salisbury University athletics program was recognized by the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) as one of the best programs in the country, finishing the 2009-10 season ranked ninth in the Learfield Sports Directors Cup Division III Final Standings.

Joseph R. Urgo Selected As President Of St. Mary's College (Md.)

The St. Mary's College of Maryland (SMCM) Board of Trustees named Joseph R. Urgo as the College's next president. He will join the College July 1, 2010. Urgo currently serves as vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty at Hamilton College in upstate New York. St. Mary's Provost Larry Vote continues to serve as acting president during the transition.
