FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- St. Mary's junior Dakota Merritt and Marymount sophomore Kenny Sysyn received CAC baseball weekly honors for March 5, 2018.  

Player of the Week

St. Mary's junior Dakota Merritt earned CAC Player of the Week honors after batting .750 with five RBIs, four doubles, and two runs scored in a 2-1 week for the Seahawks in a three-game series vs. Mount Saint Vincent. Merritt notched at least one hit and one RBI in all three contests. He opened the week with career-bests of three hits and three doubles and a season-high three RBIs in a 23-1 win, before following that up with two hits, including a double, and an RBI in a 6-4 win. He also posted a slugging percentage of 1.250 for the week.

Marymount sophomore Kenny Sysyn was tabbed as the CAC Pitcher of the Week after tossing a complete-game one-hitter in a victory over Western Connecticut State. Through seven innings on the mound, Sysyn registered a career-high nine strikeouts and just two walks against 26 batters. It marked the first complete-game outing of his career.

Salisbury is ranked No. 21 in the D3baseball.com rankings & No. 20 in the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) / Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll, while Christopher Newport and Frostburg State are receiving votes from D3baseball.com ... CNU junior Seth Woodard extended his season-opening hit streak to 13 games with a hit in all three games this week ... Frostburg State junior Brady Adam shut down No. 1 SUNY Cortland to the tune of eight strikeouts and just one earned run as the Bobcats captured an 8-5 win over the nation's top team. Adam allowed just two hits in 7.0 innings for his third win of the season. Frostburg junior Jason Paredes finished 3-for-5 with a home run and an RBI vs. SUNY Cortland ... Freshman Tyler Ray batted .600 for the week for Mary Washington, as the Eagles finished 2-1 on the week. He had a single and double with a walk in a loss at Shenandoah, and then went 0-3 with two walks and a run scored and an RBI against Messiah. On Sunday, he went 4-4 with a run and two RBI and a walk, and also came in to earn the save in a 10-6 victory over Johnson & Wales. He also swiped three bases on the week ... Marymount junior Luke Tyree paced the Saints' offense during a three-game weekend series against Western Connecticut State with five hits, including his 100th of his career in the first game on Sunday, along with three runs, three RBIs, two stolen bases and two walks ... Salisbury senior Austin Heenan pitched a complete game shutout oagainst Virginia Wesleyan, striking out 10 batters, walking three, and giving up only two hits. Salisbury freshman Jimmy Adkins helped lead the Sea Gulls to their first win of the season against Virginia Wesleyan, driving in two runs in his first at-bat of the game ... Southern Virginia freshman Justin Davis started and pitched three innings in a 3-2 win over No. 16 Roanoke, totaling three strikeouts and allowing no runs on three hits. Freshman Caleb Layden finished the week with a .583 batting average with seven hits and three RBIs. The outfielder went 3-for-4 with an RBI in the 3-2 win against Roanoke ... Wesley senior Cody Dmiterchik went 5-for-7 with a home run, three RBIs, a double and a run scored in Wesley's doubleheader split with Manhattanville. Dmiterchik currently has an eight-game hitting streak and a 10-game on-base streak ... Zac Stoll saved two of York's three wins on its six-game road trip. Stoll earned a two-inning save in the win over John Jay as he allowed one hit and struck out one to earn the save and preserve the shutout. He followed that with a one inning save in the 8-6 win over Manchester. For the week, Stoll threw 3.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk while he also registered a strikeout.
