FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport freshman Courtney Fiest and York junior Jennifer Morrissette were named the CAC Field Hockey Players of the Week for Oct. 9, 2017.

Christopher Newport freshman Courtney Fiest was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring both game-winning goals for the 10th-ranked Captains last week in CAC wins over No. 19 Mary Washington and Wesley. Against UMW, she drove home the game-winning goal off a corner with less than three minutes left in regulation to seal the victory. Three days later, she came back with the first multi-goal outing of her career against the Wolverines. She notched her second game-winning strike of the week after opening the scoring in the first half before capping things off with another dart off a corner attempt late in the second stanza to lock up the 3-0 win.

York junior Jennifer Morrissette was tabbed as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after spearheading a Spartant defense that allowed just one goal and 10 shots in a 2-0 week. Morrissette started the week by leading a defense that held Stevenson to five shots and one goal in York's 8-1 victory. On Saturday, Morrissette helped the York defense to a shutout over St. Mary's in CAC action, registering a defensive save in the 5-0 victory. Morrissette now has 16 career defensive saves and ranks third on York's all-time list, just three back of school record holder Kari Moyer.

In the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Oct. 3 Rankings, Salisbury is ranked No. 7, Christopher Newport is No. 10, Mary Washington is No. 19, and York is receiving votes ... CNU (3-0) and York (2-0) remain unbeaten in CAC play ... CNU junior defender Brittan Muir helped the Captains register their eighth shutout of the year and hold its opponents to just 12 total shots during the week ... Frostburg State senior Savannah Neubert notched two more defensive saves last week ...Mary Washington scored twice against CNU in a 3-2 loss. The Captains had given up just four goals in their first 10 games ... St. Mary's senior goalkeeper Alyssa Thompson made a career-best 12 saves for the second time in a week at York ... Salisbury junior Emily Lemanski carried much of the offensive load this week for Salisbury, scoring five of the team's nine goals in two games. She scored both of the Sea Gulls' goals in a 3-2 loss to Catholic on Wednesday before scoring her first career hat trick on Saturday in a 7-0 win against Frostburg State. Salisbury sophomore Jillian Hughes notched her second defensive save of the year against Catholic ... Wesley's Morgan Gannon put away both goals in a 2-0 victory over Eastern on Wednesday. Bridget Wood made 19 saves against Christopher Newport on Saturday ... York's Autumn Mallory led the Spartans to a pair of home wins with four goals and one assist last week. For the year, Mallory leads the Spartans and the CAC in goals (14) and points (30). Mallory ranks ninth in the nation in goals per game (1.27) and is tied for 13th in the country in points per game (2.73). Mallory now has two hat tricks this year and four for her career.
