FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior Matthew Crist and Marymount junior Patrick Ruleman secured CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for March 5, 2018.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Matthew Crist was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after equaling the CNU single-game program record with nine points during a 20-7 victory at Southern Virginia on Saturday. In the Captains' lone contest of the week, Crist scored six goals, which tied the second-most by a Captain in school history, and also contributed three assists. The senior erupted for seven points in the first half to help CNU secure a double-digit lead. Later, he came back with one more goal and assist in the second half to lock up the victory.

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Marymount junior Patrick Ruleman was honored as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Saints to a 11-6 victory over St. Vincent with a career-high 14 saves. He and the Saints defense blanked the Bearcats in the second half of the win. Ruleman also played the second half against Catholic, making four saves in his 30 minutes of work for a total of 18 on the week. He posted a 6.67 goals against average and 64.3% save percentage in 90 minutes of action between the pipes.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury is ranked No. 3 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) rankings, while York is ranked No. 5 and Christopher Newport is No. 20 ... Frostburg State freshman Matt Pagliaro was red hot at the X last week in two games. He won 25-of-33 faceoffs and scooped up 14 ground balls. The Bobcats defeated Lebanon Valley 14-3 and fell to Washington College 13-10 ... Mary Washington senior Owen Dingman posted two goals, including the game winner in overtime, as well as two assists as Mary Washington improved to 4-1 on the season with a 12-11 win at Widener on Saturday. He also added five ground balls and four caused turnovers ... Marymount freshman Clark Akers has continued to come through as a starting freshman for the Saints, leading MU in points for the week with seven after putting up four against Catholic and three at home Saturday against St. Vincent ... Steve Jones paced St. Mary's in a 1-1 week with four points on three goals and an assist. Jones helped the Seahawks to their second win of the season with his seventh career hat trick against Randolph. Ross Snodderly put up a career-best 17 saves at Washington College before just needing one save in recording his second career win ... Salisbury senior Garrett Reynolds netted a team-high five goals while adding one assist to post a team-best six points in a tough 12-11 overtime loss to Ohio Wesleyan. Reynolds recorded nine total shots placing eight on frame to finish the game with a 88.9 shot percentage. For the season Reynolds now has a team-best 17 goals while also posting 18 points which ranks him second on the team. Will Nowesnick posted a team-high three caused turnovers and two ground balls for the Sea Gulls vs. Ohio Wesleyan ... Southern Virginia freshman Seth Garff totaled six goals and three assists over two games last week. In a 18-13 win against Baldwin Wallace, he tallied five goals and two assists with a 55.6% shooting percentage ... Goalkeeper James Cella made 33 saves in Wesley's two games last week. Josh Wassum paced the Wesley offense last week with four goals and two assists. Wassum also scooped up five ground balls and caused four turnovers ... York junior Thomas Pfeiffer led the Spartans to a 15-11 win at No. 19 Lynchburg on Saturday in York's only game of the week. Pfeiffer tallied seven points on three goals and four assists in the Spartan win. For the year, Pfeiffer leads York in points with 24 on 10 goals and 14 assists. He his second in the CAC in points and in assists while he tied for ninth in goals scored.
