FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- York senior Thomas Pfeiffer & Salisbury senior Brett Malamphy earned CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week awards for April 15, 2019.

Offensive Player of the Week

York's Thomas Pfeiffer led the Spartans to a pair of CAC wins this past week as the Spartan win streak has now reached seven. Pfeiffer began the week with a school-record tying seven goals to go along with an assist for eight points in the 13-8 win over Frostburg State. Pfeiffer added two ground balls while one of this goals was a man up tally. Pfeiffer scored two goals in the first half followed by three goals in the decisive third quarter as the Spartans outscored FSU 7-2 in the quarter. He closed out his brilliant performance with two goals in the fourth quarter. Pfeiffer added three goals and an assist in the Saturday win at Southern Virginia. He also had a ground ball and a pair of caused turnovers in the win. Pfeiffer leads the Spartans in scoring with 62 points on 40 goals and 22 assists. Three of his goals are man-up while he also has 23 ground balls and six caused turnovers. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Brett Malamphy played a vital role in the top ranked Sea Gulls 2-0 week as he posted a .741 winning percentage from the faceoff X claiming 40-of-54 faceoffs. Against Christopher Newport University Malamphy won 17-of-20 faceoffs including a perfect 7-of-7 mark in the first quarter. His seven wins translated to six goals in the first quarter, which included two goals that occurred within a minute or less of the faceoff win, to help the home team take a 6-0 lead after the opening 15 minutes. It was his 10th double-digit faceoff win performance of the season while his 14 groundballs in the victory marked the fourth time he has scooped up double-digit groundballs. Against Washington College Malamphy won 23-of-34 faceoffs for a win percentage of .676 while he added a new career-high 15 groundballs, which is the third straight game this season he has scooped up double-digit groundballs.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

St. Mary's Ben Claffee led the Seahawks on the offensive end with four points in a pivotal 12-10 victory over Mary Washington on Saturday (Apr. 13). Claffee recorded three goals and one assist in the contest. His goal at the 3:23 mark of the fourth quarter sealed the victory for the Seahawks...Salisbury's Zach Pompea was crucial in a 2-0 week for the Sea Gulls as he helped keep the maroon and gold undefeated posting a team-best eight goals and 11 points. In the Sea Gulls 15-14 2OT come from behind victory over the Shoremen on Saturday, April 13 Pompea finished with a team-high seven points and another team-best four goals. He both opened and closed the scoring for the afternoon for either side as he scored three goals in the fourth quarter and overtime including the game tying and game winning marker to cap a 9-2 goal run by the Sea Gulls to rally back and beat Washington. Against No. 20 Christopher Newport Pompea tallied four goals, which tied the team-high, while adding in 10 shots, eight of which were on cage. For the week Pompea finished with a shot percentage of .444 and a SOG% of .722...Despite the Knights losing streak, Southern Virginia's Zach Danneman has been solid on the offensive end tallying 11 points over two games with 10 goals. He has shot 55.6 percent while on goal at a 83.3 clip...Frostburg's Jason Clinton finished with six points as Frostburg dropped a pair of league games to nationally-ranked York and Christopher Newport...St. Mary's Tommy Rinder led the Seahawks on the defensive end in a 12-10 victory over Mary Washington on Saturday (Apr. 13). Rinder hustled for a team-high five ground balls and caused one turnover. In addition, Rinder held the Eagles top scorer one assist and one shot...Christopher Newport's Drew Cornell made history during the week while posting three caused turnovers during a pair of games for the Captains. His three caused turnovers gave him 94 for his career, which broke the previous school standard of 92 set by Teddy Pekalski from 2010-14. He also established a new school record for career appearances with his two outings during the week. The senior has now appeared in 70 games during his tenure, topping the previous record of 68 set by former teammates Christopher Albright and Tony Cruz from 2015-18...York's Nick Roman led a strong Spartan defensive effort as York went 2-0 for the week. Roman began the week with three ground balls and four caused turnovers in the 13-8 win over Frostburg State. Roman spearheaded a Spartan defensive effort that limited the Bobcats to just three goals in the second half. In the win over Southern Virginia, Roman tallied his first goal of the year while he also had a pair of ground balls in the win. Roman only played in the first half against the Knights as York led 12-3 at the half...Mary Washington's Cole Hogan led Mary Washington this week, scoring eight goals and adding one assist. He scored five goals with one assist in a 17-16 win over Southern Va., and added three goals in a 12-10 defeat against St. Mary's.
