NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

CAC men's soccer teams boast a 25-14-7 record through the first two weeks of 2016 ... Christopher Newport (4-0), St. Mary's (4-0-1), and Salisbury (2-0-1) remain unbeaten this fall ... Christopher Newport's Stephen Durbin scored twice against N.C. Wesleyan, including the game-winner. His tallies came just 29 seconds apart, marking a program record for fastest consecutive goals by a single player, and ranking 14th in NCAA Division III history. Durbin is currently tied for the team lead in scoring as part of an offense that is scorching to start the year, averaging 4.5 goals per game. CNU goalkeeper Zach Pedini picked up a pair of solo shutouts in two complete game efforts against N.C. Wesleyan and Virginia Wesleyan. The Captains defense has rivaled the hot start of the offense, by holding opponents to just two goals this season (0.50 GAA), while allowing just 15 shots on-goal all season ... Senior Jacob Burke helped Mary Washington to its third straight win to start the season with both goals in a 2-1 win over Catholic on Wednesday, netting the game winner in overtime. Sophomore Ryan Van Maanen scored twice in a 4-0 win over Guilford ... St. Mary's Juwan Kearson picked up tournament MVP honors after leading St. Mary's to its own Seahawk Classic title by scoring the game-winning goal in the 81st minute to defeat Bridgewater, 3-2 ... Salisbury's Robert Fiackos posted a win and a tie last week, surrendering just one goal while notching four saves over the weekend. The 110-minute shutout against Bridgewater was the first solo shutout of Fiackos' career. Nick Carrington scored the game-winning goal against Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday, heading home an effort from Brooks Zentgraf. The tally was Carrington's first of his career ... Southern Virginia's Tyler Mcelwee scored a goal in each game last week, and leads the team in shots (12) this season ... Matt Freibaum led York to a 1-1-1 week as the Spartans played four games over a seven-day stretch. Freibaum had his biggest game on Friday night in leading York to a 3-1 victory at Stevenson, tallying two goals and an assist.
