Mary Washington freshman Alex Anderson finished in ninth place in the 400 yard individual medley at the NCAA Division III swimming championships in Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday. Anderson, who swam to a time of 4:00.43 in the preliminaries, actually swam the fourth fastest time in the finals, but swam from the consolation heat and placed ninth. His evening time of 3:55.72 broke his own school and conference record by a full two seconds.

The University of Mary Washington women's swim team has won all 21 Capital Athletic Conference championships since the inception of the conference in 1991. The UMW men's swim team has won 17 championships, including 11 straight. The Eagles won 28 of 36 first-place awards at the 2011 CAC Championship meet. But can the Eagles extend those streaks at the 2012 CAC Championship, which will be this weekend (Feb. 17-19) at St. Mary's College, Md.?

York's sweep of Salisbury and Goucher Friday night highlighed the weekend CAC men's and women's swimming dual meet action. Representing the CAC in a pair of invitationals, Mary Washington was third in both men's and women's at the Gettysburg Fall Festival while St. Mary's was third in the women's standings and fifth in the men's at the F&M Invitational.
