Christopher Newport Sophomore Ryan Scott and Freshman Jonathan Graham Sweep CAC Men's Track & Field Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport swept this week's awards as sophomore Ryan Scott and freshman Jonathan Graham were honored as the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 19, 2016.

Christopher Newport sophomore Ryan Scott was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 200 and 400 meters at the CNU Triangular on Friday at the Freeman Center. In the 200, he posted a time of 22.74, which marked the fastest clocking in the CAC and the 16th fastest in the nation this year. He also captured the 400 crown after crossing the line in 53.93, which was nearly a second faster than the next closest competitor.

Christopher Newport freshman Jonathan Graham was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after breaking the CNU and conference record in the pole vault during the CNU Triangular. Graham won the event after clearing 15'-1.5". That broke the CNU school record of 4.60 set by Bobby Wilson in 1996. It also topped the CAC mark of 4.50 set by Mary Washington's Nicholas Judy in 2015 and equaled by Graham earlier this year.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC teams began the 2016 portion of their indoor seasons last week ... Frostburg State competed at the Marietta Open, led by two wins from senior J.R. Lowery. Lowery won the shot put (15.34 meters) and weight throw (15.68 meters) and qualified for the ECAC Championships in both. In four events this indoor season, Lowery has been the top collegiate finisher in all four ... Mary Washington sophomore Daniel Forjan turned in a winning day at CNU as he finished tied for first in the shot put at 43'-10.75" and finished second in the weight throw at 45--3.5" ... Penn State Harrisburg competed at the Kutztown Invitational ... Salisbury will open the 2016 indoor season at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus on Saturday ... Wesley will compete next at the Gotham Cup in Staten Island, N.Y. on Jan. 22 ... York's Darnell Tillman posted a second place finish at the Kutztown Invitational on Friday night. Tillman recorded a time of 52.16, finishing .56 seconds out of first place. Alex Palescandolo placed second in the shot put at 46'-8.25".
