Marymount University has named Marco Zane Castro as the new head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country and triathlon teams, as announced by Director of Athletics Debbie Warren on Wednesday. Castro becomes the inaugural head coach of the newly announced varsity triathlon teams and the third cross country coach in program history.

York College sophomore Tim Hartung capped of his tremendous 2011 campaign with an outstanding showing at the 2011 NCAA Men's Cross Country National Championships on Saturday, November 19, in Winnecone, Wis. In only his first national championship meet, Hartung traversed the 8,000-meter course in an excellent 24:57.20 to place 50th overall out of the 279 competitors.

The University of Mary Washington and Salisbury University have been the two primary teams battling for the Capital Athletic Conference men’s and women’s team cross country titles for many years. Similarly, the top individuals in the championship races have usually worn UMW or Sea Gulls uniforms. York College, the host of the 2011 CAC Championship Meet on Saturday (10/29), is hoping to lead a pack of challengers to displace the Eagles and Sea Gulls on the awards podium, either individually or collectively.
