Southern Virginia Freshman Michael Myers Recognized as CAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Southern Virginia freshman Michael Myers was named the CAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for Oct. 21, 2014, marking the third weekly award for the runner this fall.

Southern Virginia freshman Michael Myers was named the CAC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week after finishing third among Division III runners and seventh overall at the CNU Invitational. Myers ran a personal-best time of 26:22.5 to help the Knights to a third-place team finish. His 8k time is the best in program history since the Knights joined NCAA Division III.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

This past weekend's events served as the final tune-up to the 2014 CAC Cross Country Championship. The CAC Championship is set for Saturday, Nov. 1 at Four Winds Golf Course in Rappahannock Academy, Va. ... Christopher Newport remained No. 1 in the South/Southeast Region Week 5 rankings, while Mary Washington also stayed put in 10th ... Samuel Martin (6th), Andrew Benfer (7th) and Daniel Richard (10th) posted top-10 placings to lead host Christopher Newport to the team championship at the CNU Invitational. York took second at the meet, followed by Southern Virginia in third ... St. Mary's Tim Carey was the highest finishing Division III runner at the Hood Open Invitational, placing sixth ... Thomas Burke led Salisbury at the Gettysburg Invitational, finishing 14th with a time of 26:21.8 ... York freshman Grant Dell led the Spartans at the CNU Invitational with a fourth-place mark, while Wil Murray (8th) and Colin Fleming (9th) also finished in the top 10.
