York Sophomore Joanna Marmo and Junior Melissa Jurkiewicz Sweep CAC Softball Weekly Honors
YORK, Pa. -- York sophomore Joanna Marmo and junior Melissa Jurkiewicz swept the CAC Softball weekly awards for March 6, 2017.

York sophomore Joanna Marmo secured CAC Player of the Week honors after hitting .550 (11-for-20) and leading the Spartans to seven wins in eight games during the second half of their spring break trip to Clermont, Fla. She totaled five RBIs, seven runs scored, and five doubles for the week, while posting a .571 on-base percentage and .800 slugging percentage. Her top performances came against Finlandia and Northwestern (Minn.). Against Finlandia she went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Against Northwestern, she went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, three doubles, and three RBIs.

York junior Melissa Jurkiewicz earned CAC Pitcher of the Week honors after going 4-1 last week with a 0.58 ERA in 24.1 innings during the Spartans spring break trip to Clermont, Fla. Jurkiewicz totaled 20 strikeouts and did not walk a batter, scattering 14 hits throughout her five appearances. She began the week with five scoreless innings in a 9-0 win over Adrian on Tuesday, allowing two hits and striking out four. She came in relief in the 5-1 win over Rose-Hulman in Tuesday's second game, tossing six perfect innings with six strikeouts. Jurkiewicz allowed three runs, two earned, in the Spartans' 3-2 loss against MSOE as she scattered six hits with one strikeout. She bounced back with four shutout innings with five strikeouts in the win over Northwestern (Minn.). She then completed the trip with 4.1 innings of two-hit softball in the win over Nebraska Wesleyan, striking out four in the win.

In the NFCA March 1 rankings, Christopher Newport is ranked No. 13 ... CNU went 3-1 against No. 8 Emory last weekend, with two wins on the mount coming from freshman Aubrey Bates. In 10 innings of work, Bates allowed just one earned run and four hits. She has started her freshman season with a 4-0 record and a save for the 10-2 and 13th-ranked Captains. Jenna Sprinkle led the Captains with a .538 average and six RBIs in the 4-game weekend series at Emory. The Captains are now 10-2 to start the season ... Frostburg State senior Emily Zengel finished the weekend with three runs, three hits, two walks and her first career grand slam. In Frostburg State's 13-3 win over Buffalo State, Zengel was 1-for-4 with a fourth-inning grand slam ... Freshman Danielle Newman turned in an outstanding week at the plate as Mary Washington split its four contests this week. She batted .500 (6-for-12) with a double, three walks, and four stolen bases for the Eagles. She is batting .458 through eight games for UMW this season ... Salisbury freshmen Emily Allen and Mikayla Meehan each hit their first collegiate home runs this week. Junior Annie Pietanza batted .533 last week for the Sea Gulls, including a pair of home runs, five RBIs, and a slugging percentage of .933 ... Southern Virginia freshman pitcher Megan Harmon earned the shutout win over Roanoke with three strikeouts and four hits allowed.
