FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Penn State Harrisburg sophomore Dominique Emmett and York sophomore Ginger Lewis were selected as the CAC Softball Players of the Week for April 2, 2018.

Penn State Harrisburg sophomore Dominique Emmett was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after hitting .625 with five RBIs in a 4-0 week for the Lions. Emmett notched three walks and reached base at a .692 clip for the Lions in doubleheader sweeps over Wilson and Souther Virginia. Her top performance came against Southern Virginia, as she went 4-for-5 in the twinbill with four RBIs.

York sophomore Ginger Lewis earned CAC Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this year after recording a win, a save, and 18 strikeouts in the Spartans' doubleheader sweep over Franklin & Marshall. Lewis tossed a complete game in the opener against F&M, scattering two hits with 13 strikeouts as she carried the shutout to the top of the seventh. Lewis then came into game two and threw 3.0 innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit with one walk and five strikeouts. She earned the save with her three innings of work.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

In the March 28 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 Poll, Christopher Newport is ranked No. 7 ... CNU senior Rachael Payne led the Captains to a 4-0 week and a 2-0 start in conference play. The senior shortstop, batting second in the order, hit .500 and posted a double and triple in her five base hits. She also knocked in two runs as the Captains swept DePauw and Wesley. Sophomore pitcher Laura Kate Moss allowed just one hit in five shutout innings vs. Wesley Saturday in her only appearance of the week, getting the win in a 9-0 CNU victory. The Captains have won eight straight games including two over the Wolverines to open CAC play ... Frostburg State senior Brittney Platt posted three hits, two RBIs and one run scored in two games last week ... Junior pitcher Kara Deppe helped Mary Washington to a split at Salisbury on Saturday. After starting game one and falling 4-3 despite giving up one earned run in 6.2 innings on five hits with nine strikeouts, she came on in relief in game two, and allowed one hit in 1.2 innings with three strikeouts as the Eagles scored five runs in the last two innings to gain their first regular season win at Salisbury since 2003. For the week, Deppe posted a 0.72 ERA in 9.2 innings, with 12 strikeouts. Sophomore Hannah Bruns posted a .429 batting average with six hits in 14 at bats as Mary Washington faced No. 4 Randolph-Macon and Salisbury this week. She had three hits in a twinbill loss at RMC on Wednesday, and followed with four hits in eight at bats against the Sea Gulls. Her double and run scored was instrumental in the Eagles' win over Salisbury ... Penn State Harrisburg pitcher Allison Hartman went 3-0 last week, allowing just two earned runs in 18.0 innings of work. Hartman has not walked a batter in her last 47 consecutive innings of action ... Salisbury freshman Sami Mumford was 5-for-5 in Salisbury's doubleheader split against Mary Washington and stole four bases. Junior Shannon Powell picked up the win in Salisbury's 4-3 victory against Mary Washington. Powell went the distance, striking out a career-high-tying six batters in her fifth win of the year ... Southern Virginia freshman Caitlin Barber hit back-to-back homers in 6-0 win over Ferrum. Sophomore pitcher Megan Harmon went 1-1 on the mound last week, allowing only three earned runs in 13.2 innings pitched. Harmon shutout Ferrum in game two of a doublheader with six strikeouts ... Wesley sophomore Brandi Dalious hit her fifth home run of the year against Penn St. Brandywine. She hit .600 for the week with three hits and three runs scored.
