FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport sophomore Patty Maye Ohanian and Penn State Harrisburg senior Allison Hartman were tabbed as the CAC Softball Players of the Week for March 4, 2019.

Christopher Newport sophomore Patty Maye Ohanian was perfect at the plate during a pair of victories on Saturday against No. 5 Rowan and McDaniel. During the twin bill, she went 5-for-5 with two walks in seven plate appearances. She also knocked in five runs, scored twice, and swiped a pair of bases. During the doubleheader, the Captains scored in seven different innings, and Ohanian reached base during each of those rallies and either scored or knocked in a run during six of them.

Penn State Harrisburg senior Allison Hartman led Penn State Harrisburg to a pair of wins inside the circle to open the season and contributed at the plate in the team's third win of the weekend. The hurler allowed just three hits and one walk to go along with six strikeouts in a six-inning, 9-0 shutout win over Cedar Crest on Saturday before recording a complete-game, 3-1 victory over Wesley the next day. Against the Wolverines, she scattered four hits with no walks and struck out six batters without surrendering an earned run. In two outings, she racked up 12 strikeouts with a 0.00 ERA in 13 innings pitched. She also hit .300 and slugged .500 with two doubles and a pair of RBI through three games to begin the spring.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury's Kaleigh Edwards reached base nine times in 14 plate appearances with eight hits for a .615 batting average and .643 on-base percentage. She slugged .923 with a double and her first home run in maroon and gold. Edwards scored six times and drove in a pair of runs in a four-win week for Salisbury...Penn State Harrisburg's Katie Humphrey was stout at the plate in helping lead Penn State Harrisburg to a 3-0 start this season. The junior slashed an impressive.556/.600/.778 with an OPS of 1.378 from the lead-off spot in victories over Cedar Crest, Lehman and Wesley, posting two doubles, a pair of runs scored, a walk and four RBI in 10 plate appearances over the weekend. She also added four putouts in four chances from her defensive spot in center field...Christopher Newport's Emily Weatherholtz fired her second consecutive complete game shutout with a 9-0 blanking against No. 5 Rowan on Saturday. During the contest, she allowed just four hits and needed only 76 pitches to finish off the Profs. Only two batters worked three-ball counts against Weatherholtz, and she retired seven straight hitters over the course of the first three innings while the offense handed her a 9-0 lead. Coupled with her shutout against Emory & Henry on February 10, she is the first Captain to record back-to-back shutouts to open a season since Tara Heatwole in 2016...Salisbury's Shannon Powell appeared in three of Salisbury's four games over the weekend, all in relief, and picked up the win in all three contests, her first three appearances of the season. Powell worked 12 innings (four in each outing), giving up just four runs and striking out a pair with a 2.33 ERA...York's Ginger Lewis went 1-1 to open the season for the Spartans on their 2019 spring trip. Lewis began the season with a hard-luck loss against Augustana as she allowed four runs with only one of those runs being earned. She allowed six hits as she walked two and struck out five. Lewis then twirled a six-hit shutout in Sunday's win over Adrian. She struck out 10 and did not walk a batter in earning her first victory of the year. For the week, Lewis went 1-1 with 0.54 ERA as she struck out 15 and walked two in 13 innings of work...Mary Washington's Megan Hibbs gained her first win of the season with 6.1 innings of relief against Randolph-Macon on Thursday. She allowed no earned runs and two hits with a pair of strikeouts. She also pitched three innings in the opener against RMC, allowing one earned run in three innings on two hits.
