St. Mary's Junior Tori Poffenberger and York Junior Megan Strauch Nab CAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

YORK, Pa. -- St. Mary's junior Tori Poffenberger and York junior Megan Strauch were named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 9, 2015.  

Offensive Player of the Week

St. Mary's junior Tori Poffenberger was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this year after tallying 10 goals and two assists last week, including an overtime game-winner against Randolph-Macon to help the Seahawks remain undefeated with a 2-0 week. Poffenberger started the week with career-bests of seven goals and eight points in a 16-14 road win over McDaniel as she scored on all but one of her eight shots. She followed that up with a 3-goal, 1-assist performance in a 13-12 OT road win over Randolph-Macon. Poffenberger netted the game-winning goal with 45 seconds remaining in overtime. She also added three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the win over the Yellow Jackets. 

Defensive Player of the Week

York junior Megan Strauch was awarded as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Spartans to a pair of wins over nationally-ranked teams last week. Strauch totaled eight ground balls, seven draw controls and four caused turnovers for the week in victories over No. 17 St. John Fisher (12-11) and No. 18 Ithaca (9-7).

In the IWLCA Rankings, York is No. 12 and Salisbury is No. 16 while St. Mary's and Mary Washington received votes ... In the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, Salisbury is No. 13 and York is No. 16 ... Kylie Chaplin led Christopher Newport with 12 points during the squad's spring break trip to Puerto Rico. During the two games, she totaled eight goals and four assists, including a career-high seven goals and eight points against Roanoke. Her seven goals rank fourth on the program's all-time single-game list ... Frostburg State's Jessica Jones caused seven turnovers, scooped up five ground balls and added four goals as the Bobcats posted a 2-0 week, while Malory Brunett scored eight goals on the week, contributed six ground balls, six caused turnovers and posted four draw controls ... Senior Corinne Wiederkehr led Mary Washington to a pair of one-sided wins this week, scoring six goals and adding five assists as the Eagles improved to 5-1 on the season. She scored four goals and two assists as the Eagles topped Guilford 17-2. She then scored two goals and added three assists as UMW downed Southern Virginia in the CAC opener. Through six games, she leads the team with 15 goals and 6 assists for 21 points ... Kate Haker paced the Salisbury offense on Saturday against No. 14 Washington & Lee with her first hat trick of the season along with an assist for four points ... Lily Damalouji tallied a pair of hat tricks for York last week in wins over two ranked opponents. The freshman leads the Spartans in goals scored (7) and overall points (8) in three games for the Green and White.
