YORK, Pa. -- The Christopher Newport duo of senior Meaghan Galvin and freshman Kaitlyn Ready along with Southern Virginia senior Zoe Bradshaw were honored as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 6, 2017.

Christopher Newport senior Meaghan Galvin earned CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades after tallying 13 points, 12 draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers in a 2-0 week for the Captains. Galvin began the week with three points and a season-high seven draw controls during an 18-2 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday. Three days later, she made history during an 18-5 triumph over Roanoke, becoming just the fifth player in CNU history to register 10 points in a game after notching five goals and five assists. She also became the first Captain ever to post those numbers while also registering five draw controls in the same game. Along with her work on the offensive end, she also caused two turnovers against the Maroons and added a ground ball in both contests during the week.

Southern Virginia senior Zoe Bradshaw was tabbed as the CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after totaling 13 points, 12 ground balls, five draw controls and five caused turnovers in a pair of wins for the Knights last week. Bradshaw opened the week with four goals, two assists, seven ground balls, two draw controls, and five caused turnovers in a 18-9 victory over Hollins. She closed out the week with four goals, three assists, five ground balls, and three draw controls in a 17-6 triumph over Montreat. 

 

 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Kaitlyn Ready | Christopher Newport | Fr. | GK

Baltimore, Md. Towson 

Christopher Newport freshman Kaitlyn Ready was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after surrendering just seven goals in 120 minutes of action during his first two collegiate starts in goal last week. Against Virginia Wesleyan, she notched five saves, including a pair of stops on free-position attempts. She eventually surrendered just two goals during the 18-2 triumph, which equaled the fewest scores allowed by a CNU goalie in a complete-game effort since 2011. Three days later, she returned to post her second win during an 18-5 victory over Roanoke. Against the Maroons, she registered her first double-digit save effort after collecting 10 stops, including two more on eight-meter attempts. She finished the week with a .682 save percentage and a 3.50 goals-against-average.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC teams are ranked in the IWLCA National Rankings, with Salisbury at No. 7, York at No. 11, Mary Washington at No. 17 and St. Mary's at No. 19 ... Frostburg State sophomore Morgan Cavey found the net five times and handed out four assists in two games last week. She collected two goals and four assists in FSU's 20-6 victory over Washington & Jefferson ... Sophomore Hanna Ashby turned in a solid effort for No. 17 Mary Washington in its 7-6 loss at No. 12 Messiah on Saturday. She posted nine saves as the Eagles fell by one on the road against the Falcons ... Marymount junior Abby Wescott posted a three-point day in the Saints only game last week, notching a goal and two assists against No. 7 Salisbury ... Meg Gesner led St. Mary's in scoring with six goals in two games. Gesner tallied career-bests of five goals and two ground balls at No. 6 Catholic. She then picked up the lone goal against No. 4 Gettysburg ... Salisbury sophomore Lindsey Wagner notched five goals and three assists in a 1-1 week for the Sea Gulls, including a four-goal, one-assist performance in a 16-6 CAC win over Marymount ... Shelby Schirmer stopped nine Notre Dame (Md.) shots in Wesley's 16-15 win on Saturday. Schirmer is tied for fourth in the CAC with 24 saves on the season. Paige Brehm recorded four goals including the game-tying goals with 2:21 remaining in the game. Brehm also corralled seven draws, caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls ... York goalkeeper Kayleigh Phillips had a standout day for the Spartans in their 8-7 overtime loss to No. 9 Franklin & Marshall in York's only game of the week on Saturday. Phillips scored a goal on one shot in the game and collected six draw controls in the game. She helped lead York to a 13-4 advantage in draw controls in the game. For the season, Phillips has three points on a goal and two assists while she leads the team in draw controls with 10.
