FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport juniors Sarah Culver and Julia Golden swept the CAC Women's Lacrosse weekly awards for April 2, 2018.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Sarah Culver was name the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying 12 goals and an assist in wins over Randolph-Macon and St. Mary's. On Wednesday against Randolph-Macon, she matched her career-high with seven goals. That also equaled the fourth-highest single-game total in program history. On Saturday, she returned with five more strikes during a CAC triumph over St. Mary's. Four of her tallies came in the second half, including the game-winner on a free-position attempt with two seconds remaining in regulation. Along with her work on the offensive side, Culver also contributed eight draw controls during the week, including five against the Seahawks.

Christopher Newport junior Julia Golden earned CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting eight caused turnovers, 12 draw controls, and six ground balls in a 2-0 week. On Wednesday against Randolph-Macon, she matched her career-high with seven draw controls, including five in the first half. She also established a new career-high with four caused turnovers. Three days later, she matched her newly-established career-high with four more caused turnovers in a 14-13 triumph over St. Mary's. With the score tied at 13 against St. Mary's, she disrupted a shot on a free-position attempt with 54 seconds left before forcing a turnover, grabbing a ground ball, and starting a successful clear with 16 seconds remaining on the way to the game-winning strike. Her final ground ball marked her fifth of the game, which also set a new career-high. Along with her defensive efforts, Golden also posted five points during the week. She scored a goal and assisted on a pair against the Yellow Jackets before adding a strike and helper against the Seahawks.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Three CAC women's lacrosse teams are ranked in the top-10 of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national rankings - Salisbury is No. 2, Mary Washington is No. 5 and York is No. 9 ... Frostburg State junior Morgan Cavey scored two goals and handed out an assist in a loss at Marymount ... Junior Mackenzie Maguire led Mary Washington to a pair of wins last week, scoring four goals and adding six assists as the Eagles ran their win streak to three and their record to 10-1. She scored two goals and added four assists in an 18-11 win over St. Mary's, and then scored a pair of goals with two assists in a win at Wesley on Saturday. For the season, she has 23 goals and 25 assists in 11 games. Junior goalie Shannon Bremer led Mary Washington to a pair of wins this week to improve to 10-1. She notched eight saves in an 18-11 win over St. Mary's on Wednesday, and added five stops on Saturday in a 20-3 win at Wesley. ... Marymount senior Kellen Cannon put together a nine-point week including a career- and game-high seven-point game against Frostburg State on Saturday on Senior Day. Senior Liah Agouras caused five turnovers this past week, including a game-high four against Stockton, to help the Saints to two more victories. She currently sits with 81 caused turnovers in her career, moving her into fourth place in program history ... Ali Collie has notched four consecutive hat tricks after collecting two more in an 0-2 week for St. Mary's. After entering the 2018 season with just one hat trick under her belt, Collie has recorded six this year. She contributed five points on three goals and season-best two assists at No. 6 Mary Washington before adding three goals and season-high two caused turnovers at Christopher Newport. Caitlin Katchmar played both sides of the field well for St. Mary's last week. Katchmar started the week by winning three draw controls and scooping up two ground balls to help the Seahawks gain the edge in ground balls at Mary Washington. She then fired in four goals, matching a career-best for the third time, while winning a game-high five draw controls and adding two ground balls and season-best two caused turnovers at Christopher Newport ... Salisbury went 3-0 last week, including CAC wins over Wesley and Southern Virginia and a 15-4 victory over No. 10 Franklin & Marshall in a top-10 showdown. Senior goalkeeper Gianna Falcone posted a 3.62 goals against average and 75.0 save percentage, totaling nearly 83 minutes in net. She made 15 saves while surrendering just five goals in the three games for the Sea Gulls. Junior Lindsey Wagner totaled 12 points on seven goals and five assists to lead the SU attack ... Southern Virginia junior Megan Barfuss scored five goals and dished an assist in non-conference win over Randolph. Barfuss leads the Knights in assists and is second with 16 goals ... Wesley senior goalkeeper Shelby Schirmer made 22 saves on the week, including a season-high 13 saves against Mary Washington on Saturday ... York sophomore Meghan Fox tallied 10 points on eight goals and two assists in a 1-1 week for the Spartans. Fox opened the week with four goals and one assist for five points in the 14-13 loss to nationally-ranked Catholic. She followed that with another four goals and one assist in the 13-4 win over Dickinson. Nicole Clauter tallied seven ground balls and seven draw controls in the Spartans' two games for the week.
