St. Mary's Senior Gillian Sawyer and Christopher Newport Freshman Keiley McCarthy Tabbed as CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week
YORK, Pa. -- St. Mary's senior Gillian Sawyer and Christopher Newport freshman Keiley McCarthy were tabbed as the CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week for Sept. 12, 2016.

St. Mary's senior Gillian Sawyer claimed CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring four goals in a 2-0 week for the Seahawks. Against Washington College, Sawyer scored twice in the second half to lead St. Mary's to a 5-0 victory. She then scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Stevenson. With her standout performance last week, Sawyer became St. Mary's all-time leading goal-scorer with 38 career goals.

Christopher Newport freshman Keiley McCarthy was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the CNU defense hold its opponents to just one goal in three victories last week. McCarthy played all 90 minutes of all three games, and contributed to a defense that allowed just 13 shots on-goal in the three-game week. The Captains topped Methodist, Wheaton (Ill.) and sixth-ranked Carnegie Mellon last week. McCarthy also factored into the offense, scoring the equalizer in the second half against Carnegie Mellon.

CAC women's soccer teams boast a 22-16-3 record through the first two weeks of the season ... Christopher Newport (4-0) and Salisbury (1-0-2) remain unbeaten in 2016 ... CNU started 4-0 for the first time since 2000 with a 2-1 victory over sixth-ranked Carnegie Mellon on Friday, and a 1-0 triumph over Wheaton (Ill.) on Saturday. Victoria Perry delivered the game-winner against Carnegie Mellon and Taylor Hudgins notched the game-winner vs. Wheaton for CNU. Perry's game-winner was the 13th of her career ... Frostburg State freshman Brooke Shehade scored two game-winning goals for the Bobcats in a 2-1 week. Shehade's first goal was the OT game-winner in FSU's 2-1 win over Washington & Jefferson, while her second goal was also an OT winner as the Bobcats downed Rutgers-Newark 1-0 ... Mary Washington saw five different players score goals this week, as they topped Maryville, 3-0 on Sunday to highlight the week ... Marymount went 2-0 last week with wins over Washington Adventist and Randolph. Freshman Courtney Stephens totaled two goals and an assist, including the game-winner on Saturday against Randolph. She has scored a goal in three of four games for the Saints, and ranks tied for fourth in the CAC in goals scored. Sophomore defender Brooke Hillenbrand notched a career and game-high four points vs. Washington Adventist with her second career goal and two assists ... Salisbury posted a pair of ties last week vs. Kenyon and Denison. Ruthie Lucas scored both goals for the Sea Gulls against Denison ... Southern Virginia's Keirra Tanuvasa scored or assisted on both goals at Bridgewater (Va.). She leads team in shots (15) and ranks second in goals (3) this season ... Wesley's Aleya Cummings netted four goals last week, including a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Immaculata. The hat trick was the second for Cummings in the last three games. She has notched a conference-best eight goals in the Wolverines' first four games.
