FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury senior Ruthie Lucas and the Christopher Newport duo of freshman Riley Cook and Carly Maglio earned CAC Women's Soccer weekly awards for Sept. 25, 2017.   

Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport freshman Riley Cook was tabbed as the CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after scoring both game-winning goals and totaling three scores in a 2-0 week for the Captains. She opened the week by scoring twice, including the game-deciding tally, against Roanoke. She then connected on the game's only score in a 1-0 conference-opening triumph over York. Cook leads the CAC in goals (8) and total points (17) this season. 

 

 

Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Ruthie Lucas collected CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring three times including a pair of game-winners for the Sea Gulls last week. Lucas scored both SU goals in a 2-1 non-conference victory over Rutgers-Newark, and tallied the game's lone goal in a 1-0 conference-opening triumph against Southern Virginia. 

 

 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Carly Maglio was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year after picking up two wins in 170:49 of shutout goalkeeping last week. Maglio played all but 9:11 of two Captains' wins, including a complete-game shutout against York in the CAC opener. She made four saves on the week and notched her 20th career shutout, becoming just the third CNU women's goalkeeper to do so. She also earned her 40th career victory, becoming just the second CNU goalkeeper, men's or women's, to reach that mark.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE 

Christopher Newport is ranked in both national polls. The Captains are No. 5 in the D3soccer.com rankings and No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches poll ... Frostburg State sophomore Brooke Shehade scored two goals and added two assists in two games last week. She scored once and handed out two assists in FSU's win over Wesley ... Junior Kelcie Macomber pitched a shutout as Mary Washington topped Marymount, 4-0, in the CAC opener. she stopped one shot in the win ... Lane Brooks helped St. Mary's to a 1-1 week with two goals in a CAC-opening win over Penn State Harrisburg. Brooks scored in 73rd minute and again in the 90th minute with a curving corner kick into the far top corner. Her two goals and four points are both career-highs. St. Mary's Emmey German notched two goals, including the game-winner in the 28th minute, to help the Seahawks to a CAC-opening win over Penn State Harrisburg. German leads the Seahawks with three goals and six points thus far ... Southern Virginia sophomore Taylor Mercer scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the Knights' 2-1 victory over Randolph. Junior goalkeeper Merideth Ouellette only allowed two goals this week in over 180 minutes in goal for SVU and earned her first win in goal over Randolph in first collegiate start. She also totaled five saves against Salisbury ... Krista Salvadore registered six saves in Wesley's two games on the week. Salvadore leads the CAC in saves (63) and is second in save percentage (.840). Aleya Cummings netted four goals on the week for Wesley, including a hat trick against Washington Adventist on Wednesday. Cummings is second in the CAC in goals (7) and points (15) ... York's Jess Weiber picked up her first collegiate victory with 70:21 of shutout soccer on Wednesday afternoon against Juniata. Weiber made two saves in her time in net to earn the victory. She followed that with an outstanding performance in holding CNU to one goal in 90 minutes of action on Saturday afternoon. Weiber made a career-high nine saves against the Captains in the 1-0 loss in the CAC opener. Maxine Herman helped the Spartans break out of a scoring slump with two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over Juniata last Wednesday.
