FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Mary Washington senior Megan Murphy was honored as the CAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for Oct. 31, 2017.

Mary Washington senior Megan Murphy was honored as the CAC Athlete of the Week after winning eight races in two Eagle victories over the weekend. On Friday at Frostburg State, she was a member of the winning 200 meter medley relay and 200 meter free relay. Individually, she took first in the 100 meter butterfly at 1:06.24 as well as the 400 freestyle at 4:46.96, as UMW topped Frostburg, Ferrum, and Roanoke. On Saturday, Murphy won two more relays and two more individual races as the Eagles defeated Division II Barton College. She was a member of the winning 200 yard medley and freestyle relays, and won the 200 butterfly as the Eagles finished 1-2-3 in the event. Murphy then won the 100 freestyle at 54.21. Murphy's 200 butterfly time ranks 12th nationally, while her 100 freestyle time ranks 31st.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All six CAC women's swimming teams have opened their 2017-18 campaigns ... York, Marymount, and Mary Washington earned CAC victories last week ... York defeated Salisbury 185-69, Marymount edged St. Mary's 109-96, and Mary Washington topped Frostburg State 176-96 ... Frostburg State senior Macey Nitchie has opened her senior year a perfect 11-for-11 in individual events. She has three wins in each of the last three meets as Frostburg has opened the season at 7-2. She has totaled four wins each in the 50 and 100 freestyles and has added two wins in relays ... Marymount sophomore Hayley Elizondo grabbed top finishes in the 50-yard freestyler and 100-yard breaststroke to help the Saints open the season with a 109-96 victory over St. Mary's ... In her college debut, St. Mary's freshman Anna LaPoint anchored the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays and she also captured the 200 freestyle in 2:03.08 ... Salisbury freshman Jordyn Rowe earned a first place victory in the women's 200-meter individual medley on Saturday against rival York, with a time of 2:45.93. She was also anchor for the women's 200-meter freestyle relay that finished first with a time of 2:04.30 ... York junior Maddy Mann led the Spartans to their third straight win in the Saturday afternoon victory over Salisbury. Mann picked up a pair of individual wins as the Spartans cruised to a 185-69 win to open conference competition. Mann won the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:02.52, edging teammate Margaret Stein by just under a second. She then won the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:42.96, winning by just under three seconds. Mann also was a part of winning 200 meter relay team. She leads the Spartans individual wins for the season with three while she also has a runner up finish.
