YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport freshman McKinney Harwood was named the CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for Sept. 17, 2014.

Christopher Newport freshman McKinney Harwood was tabbed as the CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week after posting a 5-2 singles record at the No. 1 position through the Captains first two tournaments of the fall season. At the George Mason Invitational she was 3-1 with a pair of straight-set wins over Division I opponents from Mount St. Mary's and George Mason. This past weekend at the UMW Kickoff Classic, Harwood earned a win over another Division I opponent, dropping Longwood's Anna Pelak (2-6, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (7)) and earning a victory over Mary Washington's Mackenzie Smith (8-2). Harwood and Kate Huck also combined for a trio of doubles wins throughout the two tournaments, including a triumph over George Mason.

Christopher Newport opened its season at the George Mason Invitational, before competing at Mary Washington's Kickoff Classic last weekend ... Junior Shelby Harris won a pair of singles matches and one doubles match as UMW hosted the Kickoff Classic with Longwood, CNU, Washington & Lee, and George Mason ... Penn State Harrisburg began its campaign with a 7-2 home triumph over Cairn ... Shannon Ramsey led St. Mary's to a 2-0 season-opening weekend with a 4-0 individual record, going 2-0 at No. 1 singles and partnering with Emily Stumpfig for a 2-0 record at No. 1 doubles ... York freshman Katie Wagner made her collegiate debut a successful one as she posted a 6-1, 6-1 number one singles win in the Spartans' 5-4 victory over Catholic in the Spartans season-opening win on Sunday.
