FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport sophomore Johanna Ranta-aho was honored as the CAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for April 17, 2018.

Christopher Newport sophomore Johanna Ranta-aho was honored as the CAC Player of the Week for the second-straight week and third time this spring after winning all four of her matches and helping the Captains secure the No. 2 seed in the CAC Tournament with wins over Salisbury and St. Mary's. Ranta-aho extended her singles winning streak to 12 matches, defeating Salisbury's regionally-ranked Annika Kezman (No. 14 in Atlantic South) at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-4) and then took down St. Mary's Sophie Gary (6-0, 6-0). She also won a pair of doubles matches with two different partners. She played at No. 3 against Salisbury with Lily Schreiber, winning 8-0, before teaming with Alexandra Drye for a No. 1 doubles victory against St. Mary's, 8-3.

In the ITA National Team Rankings, Mary Washington is ranked No. 18 and Christopher Newport is ranked No. 24 ... In the ITA Atlantic South Regional rankings, UMW is No. 5 and CNU is No. 7 and Salisbury is No. 13 ...  Four CAC players are ranked in the ITA Atlantic South Region singles rankings - CNU's Johanna Ranta-Aho is No. 6, UMW's Kait Brogan is No. 10, UMW's Rachel Summers is No. 11, and Salisbury's Annika Kezman is No. 14 ... Four doubles teams are ranked in the ITA Atlantic South Region doubles rankings - UMW's Ashley Barrow / Kait Brogan are No. 2, UMW's Caroline Mosberg / Rachel Summers are No. 9, CNU's Alexandra Drye / McKinney Harwood are No. 12, and Salisbury's Annika Kezman / Julia Kwedi are No. 14 ... Frostburg State sophomore Allison Paul picked up wins at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles against Penn State Harrisburg ... Senior Kait Brogan led No. 18 Mary Washington to a 6-3 win over No. 20 Johns Hopkins on Sunday, picking up a pair of points with wins at one singles and doubles. She teamed with fellow senior Ashley Barrow for an 8-3 win at doubles, and then won at one singles, 6-4, 2-6, 10-2 as the Eagles topped the Blue Jays for the second time in three seasons to improve to 14-4 on the year ... Penn State Harrisburg sophomore Sydney Nye defeated York's top player in a thrilling singles match 6-2, 2-6, 10-5. Against Frostburg State, Nye won at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2 and teamed with doubles partner Courtney Bennett to defeat Frostburg's top doubles team, 8-5 ... Salisbury sophomore Julia Kwedi picked up three wins in her four matches despite the Sea Gulls dropping contests to Christopher Newport and TCNJ. Against the Captains, Kwedi garnered two of Salisbury's three points with a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles, while she and playing partner Annika Kezman earned an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles.  In an 8-1 defeat to TCNJ, Kwedi got the only point, winning her No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-0, while she and Kezman nearly got another falling at No. 1 doubles, 8-6 ... Southern Virginia junior Lauren Morrison went 4-2 last week to lead the Knights ... York sophomore Gina Liguori led the Spartans to a pair of wins as she went 2-0 at fourth singles and 2-0 at second doubles as the Spartans won both of their conference matches this week.
