Christopher Newport Junior Logan Harrington and Salisbury Junior Meghan McGowan Honored as CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport junior Logan Harrington and Salisbury junior Meghan McGowan were honored as the CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Dec. 8, 2015.

Christopher Newport junior Logan Harrington was selected as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after finishing first in the 800 meters and second in the mile at the CNU Holiday Open. In the 800, she posted the top time in Division III, crossing in 2:20.34 to beat a field of 26 competitors that included nine Division I entrants. In the mile, Harrington recorded the second-fastest time in the nation with a mark of 5:10.93 to claim second place and first among Division III runners.

Salisbury junior Meghan McGowan was chosen as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after tying for third place in the high jump at the CNU Holiday Open. McGowan set the top height in the CAC and seventh-best in the nation with a mark of 5'-3".

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All seven CAC teams competed in non-scoring events this past weekend ... All seven CAC teams competed opened up their 2015-16 indoor seasons this past weekend ... Christopher Newport, Mary Washington and Salisbury each competed at the CNU Holiday Open, Penn State Harrisburg, Wesley and York traveled to the Bow-Tie Classic at Ursinus, and Frostburg State competed at the Marietta First Glimpse ... Frostburg State's Kayla Truesdel captured three wins at the Marietta First Glimpse in the 55-meter dash (7.40), 200-meter dash (26.55) and 400-meter dash (1:02.15) ... Salisbury finished with seven top-five placements at CNU, including third-place marks in the pole vault from both Sarah Taylor and Amanda Ellen at 9'-6.25", and a third-place mark in the triple jump by Christine Randall at 34'-9.75" ... Mary Washington senior Taylor Cockerille earned two top-six finishes in throwing events at the CNU Holiday Open against many Division I opponents. She finished third in the in the shot put with a throw of 38'-8.75" and sixth in the weight throw at 43'-11.75" ... Wesley's Taylor Rae Danforth finished second in the pole vault at Ursinus, clearing 10'-6", while Dieunise Desir finished fifth in the 3,000 meters with a school-record time of 11:36.18 and also set a new school mark in the 800 meters at 2:23.12. The 4x400 relay team of Desir, Chiquita Deline, Danae Carter and Quadira Minus took first at 4:06.03, which ranks fifth in the nation ... York's Jada Griffin-Howard had a strong start to her collegiate career at the Ursinus Bow-Tie Classic, placing fourth in the 400 meter dash in 1:04.19. Her mark was just two seconds away from the school record. Griffin-Howard was also a part of the 4x200 meter relay team that finished fourth with a time of 1:52.61.
