Frostburg State Junior Kayla Truesdel and Christopher Newport Sophomore Hannah Bowden Tabbed as CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State junior Kayla Truesdel and Christopher Newport sophomore Hannah Bowden were selected as the CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 17, 2017.

Frostburg State junior Kayla Truesdel was selected as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight time after winning the 200-meter dash at the West Virginia Open. Truesdel raced to a time of 26.37 in the 200 and also placed  third in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:20.66. Both times were good enough to qualify her in those events for the 2017 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.

Christopher Newport sophomore Hannah Bowden was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after posting the top mark in the long jump in the CAC this year at the CNU Quadrangular on Friday. Bowden registered a distance of 5.19 meters, the top mark in the conference by over a foot and a half and the 40th-best mark in the nation. She also posted a victory in the 60-hurdles at 9.40 and finished seventh in the high jump with a 1.40-meter clearance.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Four CAC teams opened the 2017 portion of their indoor campaigns this past weekend ... Penn State Harrisburg and Wesley begin their 2017 seasons this week, while Salisbury opens up on Jan. 27 ... Mary Washington junior Janel Moore finished in first place in both the 60 meters and the 200 meters at the CNU Quadrangular on Friday night. She crossed the line at 8.06 seconds in the 60 meters, and then won the 200 with a time of 26.79 seconds. Freshman Erin Andrewlevich won the 400 meters at 1:02.68, while freshman Kristy White took top honors in the 800 meters at 2:32.30. The Eagles' 4x400 relay team took first, with Hannah Huggins, Emily Knerr, White, and Bailey Ratliff crossing the line at 4:36.18 ... York freshman Gabby Emeigh set a new school record in the weight toss for the Spartans at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational in Lancaster on Saturday. Emeigh shattered the school record with a toss of 12.74 meters, a full meter longer than the previous mark. Emeigh also finished tenth in the shot put with a best distance 10.06 meters.
