FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Penn State Harrisburg junior Ashley Williams and Christopher Newport senior Hannah Shoemaker were tabbed as the CAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Jan. 23, 2017.

Penn State Harrisburg junior Ashley Williams was tabbed as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after winning the 60-meter hurdles at the Orange & Maroon Classic last weekend. Williams raced to a time of 9.06 seconds in the 60 hurdles, which ranks atop the CAC and seventh on the national list.

Christopher Newport senior Hannah Shoemaker was honored as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after taking over the top spot in the CAC in the shot put at the Captains Invitational on Saturday. Shoemaker unleashed a 12.80-meter toss, marking the longest throw in the conference by over two feet this season and the 22nd-best nationally. Additionally, she registered the league's second-best effort in the weight throw during the CNU Holiday Open with a 14.01-meter heave, which marked the top throw by a Division III competitor during the meet.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All eight CAC track & field teams have now opened their 2017-18 indoor seasons ... Christopher Newport sophomore Monica Lannen registered the top time in the CAC in both the 800 and mile during an impressive stretch for the sophomore. During the CNU Holiday Open on December 9, she posted the conference's top mark in the 800 with a time of 2:26.37. On January 20, she continued her roll with a time of 5:30.88 in the mile, which places her first in the conference by over a full second ... Frostburg State senior Kayla Truesdel has posted three individual wins in the last two weeks. She won the 60 (7.96) and the 200 (26.41) while hitting two ECAC marks at WVU and then won the 200 (26.47) with another ECAC mark at Susquehanna ... Junior Jillian Weisbeck had Mary Washington's top finish at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational on Saturday. The junior took seventh in the 5000 meters at 18:43.39 ... Southern Virginia freshman Alexi Speas earned a first-place finish in the pole vault event by clearing 3.05m at the Captains Invitational, breaking her own program record. Speas is now tied for second-best among all other pole-vaulters in the CAC. McKenna Maloney placed second in the women's 600-meter dash, setting a PR and program record with a time of 2:14.62 for the Knights ... Wesley sophomore Evelina Sloboh paced the Wolverines with a pair of top-10 finishes at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational. Sloboh ran the 60 meters in 7.88 seconds to finish fifth. In her lone jump of the day, Sloboh finished 10th in the long jump with a mark of 5.09 meters (16-08.50). Sloboh ranks first in the Mideast Region in the 60 meters and ninth in the long jump ... York sophomore Katie Krutz placed fourth in the pole vault at the Coach I Open at Frankin & Marshall (2.74m), and followed that with a school-record-tying height of 3.05 meters at the Susquehanna Indoor Orange and Maroon Classic on Friday.
