Mary Washington Freshman Savannah Powers Earns Second Straight CAC Volleyball Weekly Award

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington freshman Savannah Powers was selected as the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the second straight week on Oct. 10, 2016.

Mary Washington freshman Savannah Powers was selected as the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the second straight week after leading the 16th-ranked Eagles to a trio of 3-0 wins with averages of 4.22 kills and 1.89 digs per game while hitting .369. She had 13 kills and four digs in a 3-0 win over Washington & Lee on Wednesday, added 11 kills and four digs in a 3-0 win over Wesley, and 14 kills and nine digs in a 3-0 win over Salisbury. Powers and the Eagles are now 20-1 overall and have won 13 straight.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport is ranked No. 13 and Mary Washington is ranked No. 16 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 ... Mary Washington (4-0) and Marymount (3-0) are the lone remaining unbeatens in CAC play ... On Friday, Salisbury defeated CNU 3-1, snapping the Captains impressive conference winning streak. Over the past decade, the Captains had won 138 consecutive regular season league matches dating back to 2006. That run ranked as the fifth-longest streak in the history of collegiate volleyball and the third-longest active roll, trailing only Juniata (361 straight) and Division II Wheeling Jesuit (148). Entering Friday, CNU had won 29 consecutive CAC bouts since 2013 after ripping off 109 straight league matches to wrap up their time in the USA South ... Frostburg State's Madelyn Torres handed out 54 assists with 15 digs and three kills in three matches for the Bobcats last week. She also had three kills and 15 digs ... UMW sophomore Leslie Walters hit .449 for the week with 3.11 kills per game ... Marymount senior Emileigh Rettig paced the Saints to a 3-0 week with 2.71 kills per game and a .281 kill percentage. Against Penn State Harrisburg she added three service aces while totaling four blocks against York. Marymount head coach Beth Ann Wilson became the CAC coaching leader in career wins with number 406 and 407 on Friday and Saturday, as the Saints topped Penn State Harrisburg 3-0 and York 3-1. Wilson surpassed former Salisbury coach Margie Knight, who totaled 405 overall wins throughout her tenure ... Penn State Harrisburg's Alexis Imler notched 14 kills and 20 digs in three matches this week ... Mimi Graf helped St. Mary's to a 3-0 week, including its first two CAC wins of the season. Graf started the week with a double-double of career-best 46 assists and 15 digs in the four-set win over York. She then collected back-to-back matches of 36 assists in leading the Seahawks to a pair of sweeps ... In Salisbury's 3-1 victory over CNU, Katie Stouffer tallied a match-high 18 kills to help the Sea Gulls break the Captains' CAC match winning streak. It was the ninth time this season Stouffer has tallied 15 or more kills in a single match ... Hannah Allred leads Southern Virginia in the majority of offensive categories including kills, kills per game, and service aces per game ... York's Madyson Whitcomb tied a school record for solo blocks in a game with five against St. Mary's.
