YORK, Pa. -- Marymount senior Cailyn Thomas was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 31, 2016.

Marymount senior Cailyn Thomas was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week after helping the Saints to a 2-1 week including the program's first victory over a top-25 opponent against No. 12 Mary Washington. For the week, Thomas averaged 3.08 kills per game with a .280 hitting percentage, notching double-figure kills in matches against Mary Washington, No. 20 Christopher Newport, and Messiah. She was also a stalwart on defense, totaling 21 blocks for the week with an average of 1.62 per game. Thomas now sits in the top three in the CAC in blocks per set, block solos and total blocks, and ranks fifth in block assists. On the hitting side, she sits fourth with a .303 hitting percentage.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Mary Washington is ranked No. 12 and Christopher Newport is ranked No. 20 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 ... The CAC regular season is now complete, with postseason play set to begin this week ... Mary Washington secured the No. 1 seed in the CAC postseason for the first time since 1997, while Salisbury also claimed a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed ... Tuesday's first round will feature No. 6 York at No. 3 Christopher Newport, and No. 5 St. Mary's at No. 4 Marymount. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m. ... The CAC semifinals are slated for Thursday, with the highest remaining seed to host the championship on Saturday ... CNU's Hannah Miller led the Captains on both sides of the ball after registering 37 kills and 19 blocks during the team's three matches. She had at least 10 kills and five blocks in all three contests. She moved into second in program history in career blocks (433) and ninth in total points (1430.5) ... Frostburg State's Naya Cheatem registered 26 kills and hit .458 in the final two matches of the season. She capped the season with 17 kills and a .615 hitting percentage in a 3-0 shutout of Wesley ... Freshman Savannah Powers recorded 22 kills in two matches as Mary Washington downed St. Mary's in the regular season finale to finish at 26-3 and gain top seed in the CAC Tournament. She added 10 digs and four total blocks for the week ... Salisbury's Katie Stouffer led the Sea Gulls in three-straight CAC wins to secure the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Stouffer recorded a team-best, and consistent, 14 kills per match, hitting .432 for the week. Senior Shannon Russell recorded her 1,000th career dig on Friday night against Southern Virginia, becoming the 16th Sea Gull to accomplish the feat ... Southern Virginia's Penny Gwynn led the team with 16 kills this week, and finished the season as the team-leader in kills and kills per game.
